While moving some paper files I saw some references to a
Thomas Carr b: 1758-1820, m: Francis Bacon,
They lived in Ga.

Fellow Carr Researchers:
(At least I still have my Anne Arundel Co MD Carrs, even though I had to
abandon Anne Winston Carr & Geo. Waller recently as Carol Mitchell gave me
information, which actually I already had but had trusted some cousins, that
indicates a huge date disconnect for my Mary Waller, d/o John m. Crispen
Shelton 1807, Pittsylvania, being their granddaughter..oh well).
Anyway I have amongst my meager xeroxes of Washington Co information the
following two will abstracts, the first of which looks like it could fit,
though you'd need to check out where these folks all lived, etc. There are
several Carr families in Greene and Washington Co.
From Washington Co TN Wills, 1777-1872, by Goldene Fillers Burgner:
**JOHN CARR SENR. July 24, 1811
Children: John, James, Richard, William, Hannah, Louise, Sarah, mary,
Elizabeth, Isabelle. Executors: Richard Carr, William Carr. Wit: Samuel
Denton, Martha Denton, Tabitha Denton, Proven July Sessions, 1818. Signed:
John Carr, Sr.
(FYI, this will should be transcribed in full inthe same book that was the
source of your post.)
JOHN COWAN August 13, 1813
To Elizabeth Cowan. To Richard Carr, relationship not mentioned. To Jacob
Ellis, relationship not mentioned. Brothers, Jonus Cowan, Thomas Cowan.
Nephew, James Crabtree. Sisters. Executors: Elizabeth Cowan, Jacob Ellis,
Richard Carr. Wit.: George Humphrey, William Carr, Samuel Denton. Proven
November Sessions, 1813. Signed: John Cowan
In my search for Martin, Horton, Mullens & Tadlock there I have a few
miscellaneous tax lists and deeds.
I have John Carr on Captain Shipley's list 1798:
Carr, John 1 White Poll, 100 Acres, no studs, no scalps
Same list free Taxable inhabitants Jesse, Joseph, Rice, Robert Duncan
Miscellaneous deeds
12/3/1801 NC grant 1306 to Joseph Duncah: 100 acres at the head of
Limestone (location of Shipley's list, upon which my Daniel Horton is): ad:
Alex Morrow, Joseph Duncan
10/23/1782 NC 109 to James Denton: 403 acres on Sinking Creek Adj: David
Jobe,Odel, Samuel Denton, William Wilson.
1/8/1814 Samuel Denton to John Millar; 152 acres on Knobb Creek. Cons:
$1000. Adj: Joh Carr, Crouse, Range, Millar. Sig: Samuel Denton Wit: Hy
King, John Carr, Jonas Denton Ct: Feb. 1814. Rec: 10 june 1814
That's all I have. I only have about 18 pages copied from the county as I
have justed started in earnest trying to figure out who the parents of my
Margaret Martin who md. Isaac Horton are. I think it's Joseph Martin, d.
1824. I'm looking at a set of interlocking marriages/neighbors crossing the
Washington Co/Greene Co borders (Shipley's list was ON the border about the
middle of the county. They are among these families: Horton, Mullins,
Tadlock, McCall, Shields, Martin, Chapman, Kennedy (at a minimum).
Hope this helped. I don't know anything about these Carrs, except that there
are MANY of them. I recommend also looking at Greene Co.
Best Regards, Janet Hunter
Does anyone know who these Carrs belong?

Hello Carr researchers,
Maybe someone on the Carr List can help both of us out with this. I don't see any connection between the two families. Do either of these two families tie in with anyone else's research?
kerrstudio(a)jbntelco.com Thanks Becky
Jan, I am forwarding this to the Carr list at rootsweb. I don't see any connection between our families, however I thank you for your time and help. Becky

Hello Jan, Thanks for your reply. I was wondering if you have the birthdate for the Elijah that died. Maybe they got the two Elijah's turned around as to which one died. Am I grasping at straws or what? Also I wondered if you knew what county they were living in, in Ohio? I found a John Carr and Katherine Carr listed in Washington Co., Ohio 1820 Census. A William Carr in Marietta twp., Wash. Co., Ohio. and that is all. I then found a Samuel Kerr and a Sarah Carr in the 1820 Brown co., Ohio census. An Adam Carr in Pleasant twp., Brown Co., and a Hugh Carr in Lewis twp., Brown Co. Ohio. But no Thomas or Elijah. In either of those counties. So it would help to know which county.
I did find an Elijah Carr listed on the Washington Co., 1820 Indiana Census, 213; with one male 26 - 44 and one female under 10 and two females between 16 and 25 a farmer. Right below Elijah was an Elisha Carr, 213; with one male under 10, 2 males 45 and up; 2 females under 2, and one female 26 to 44. My Elijah would have been four years old at the time of the census. The handwritten notes I have from my Grandmother Kerr has Elijah's Kerr's name spelled Elisha. So I may have been barking up the wrong tree in more ways than one for quite awhile. I just found out that he went by Carr until they moved to Kansas then the spelling changed to Kerr. Since I don't have any names of siblings I can't check to verify anyone by name. But, all of the subsequent families down the line have the names William or James William, Robert, John, and Katherine, Emily, Ruth and Nancy for the women. No Thomas'. Does any of this tie in further with what you have?
I have two Carr lines running in my family. The other is Joseph F.Carr from Penn. born abt. 1810 who married Margaret Thomas from NY born 1819 who's daughter Lydia Ann Carr born 1855, Orange Co. NY married James William Kerr/Carr the son of Elisha or Elijah Carr/Kerr born 1851 in Savannah, Andrews Co., Missouri. I have found the graves of that Carr family near Willis, Kansas. But haven't been able as yet to track down where James William is buried. It could be around White Cloud, Kansas but I haven't gone over ther to look yet.
So I have a confusing trail to follow. If you can be of any help I would greatly appreciate it. I do have one more tid bit of information gleened from an obituary. That stated one of Elijah or Elisha's brothers was an "ex-speaker" from Indiana. Speaker of what I am not certain. But it makes me think of legislature, state or federal I have no idea.
This is probably more than you wanted to know. Thanks again, Becky

Becky-
My Carr's are from OH too-have 2 Elijah's. one is son of Thomas Carr and Ann Gates b. 1807/08, d. 1884-don't have any spouse listed for him and the other Elijah is son of Samuel (another son of Thomas and Ann)Carr and Eleanor Moore but show he died in infancy.
I do have a great deal on the Carr line-do you have other Carr's or names of some of their allies?

Hi everyone,
Well I just discovered that my ggrandfather name was JOHN CARR not James as I
had been told. I find him in 1880 Robbertson Co, TX with his wife Martha Jane
Carr, They have these known children: Mary Carr b. abt 1876 TX , Margaret
Carr b. abt 1879, (James Carr b, 1883 and possibly a "Sudie Carr" b. abt
1881)....they had Martha's 2 children living with them from a previous
marriage, Belle Shell b. abt 1870 & Charley W Shell b. abt 1872
John Carr birthplace on census is Ireland, and both parents are suppose to be
from Ireland also. John is listed occupation ss a Boarding house -
Saloon....I know that Martha is listed as a Widow in 1900 and running the
Boarding house and had 2 boarders.
Does anyone know this John Carr or possibly his parents...they would have
immigrated after 1841 to USA.......
Any help appreciated...Ann Carr- Massey

Thomas Mack Gehee alias James Mar Gregor (from a book: Forebears of 4
Dunbars by: Carl & Lorene Dunbar)
IN BRIEF::::::::::
Thomas Mack Gehee died in St Johns Parish, King William Co, VA, 27 July
1724. Thomas' son, William, of New Kent Co, VA...had a son James, born ca
1700 in New Kent, who md Rebecca Prewitt of Hanover in 1721; they also had
a son, John; a son, Samuel, who md Mary Lead and a son, William, who md
Elizabeth McCulloch, son James, moved to Albemarle Co, VA ca 1747. He and
Rebecca had: Sarah, born before 1730 who-md William Campbell of Augusta Co;
Joseph md Margaret Terrell; Joseph's twin brother Benjamin; James born ca
1731; died in Louisa Co., and William, born ca 1735 died in Albemarle Co
1815.
William & Elizabeth McCullock McGehee followed his brother, James to Albemarle
Co, VA before 1768, the year he pattened 200 acres on Henderson Creek. THEY
HAD: William, Elizabeth, Joseph, Lively, Charles, Nancy md: William
Adcock; Mary md: James Martin.
James and Rebbecca McGehee followed their son, Joseph, to Grainville Co, NC,
where he died in 1774. His brother, William, remained in Albermarie Co.
----------------------------------------------------
The McGehee Family
James & Rebecca Prewitt McGehee came to Alemarie Co, VA from Hanover Co in
1747, the year he obtained a patent for 400 acres on Little Machunk Creek. In
1768 his brother, William & Elizabeth McCulloch McGehee, patented 200 acres on
Henderson's Branch, near Secretary Rd.
A description indicates the McGehee land was not far from Colle, especially
because in 1774 the place came into the hands of Thomas Jefferson son of
Montecello. The McGehee subsequently settled near the present town of
Woodridge and the forks in the road at the place for a long time, went by the
name of McGegee's Old Field. James McGehee's dau, Sarah, md William
Campbell of Augusta Co & they were the parents of John Campbell, whose 1761
Orange Co, NC will was probated 1775 in Rowan Co, NC
Interesting to note that the land on the Rivanna River near Charlottesville,
VA was part of the 3277 acre grant aquired by Joseph Smith. William McGehee
193 acres was aquired by the Jefferson family after William moved to a place
near Woodridge.
1754 Peter Jefferson, father of Thomas, surveys 193 acres for his
neighbor, William McGehee

My Great-great-grandfather Joseph Carr was born 1820 in Campbell Co.
Kentucky. The only information I have at this time is at
http://randalcarr.tripod.com/carrfamily He married Nancy Behymer of Ohio
(just across the Ohio River from Covington, KY).
The site includes a GEDCOM file that gets updated from time to time.
Any help in Campbell County would be greatly appreciated since Joseph
apparently popped out of thin air. (Census records indicate Jospeh's
parents were born in Kentucky)

Does anyone know anything abt Mary Carr Family in Collin, TX - she is listed
as in the index for Confederate Indigent Families
Carr, Mary | Collin
I believe she may be part of my Collin, TX Carr Line. Dont know how...but
want too.
Thanks Ann Carr
hello everyone,
I have just begun searching my Carr line and ran into a stumbling block.
Looking for my great grand pa James Carr possibly named James Andrew Carr
according to his sons funeral records. He was in married to a Martha J Shell
abt 1881 in TX. they had 2 known children that I can find on census, a
daughter Sudie Carr that was born abt Sept 1882 in TX and son (my
grandfather) James Andrew Carr born abt Apr or Oct 1883 / depending on what
record you are looking at. James Sr, died sometime proir to 1900 as Martha is
listed as a widow. Martha was possibly married 2 times prior to James Carr,
a Mr Marsh abt 1861 and a Mr Shell abt 1870 as she has a son by each of those
last names, Sidney J Marsh b. abt 1862 in TX and Charley W Shell b. Feb 1871.
James Sr and James Jr lived around Collin Co, TX from what I was told but I
found Martha in Robertson Co, Tx in 1900 and her son James was living with
his brother Sidney Marsh in Collins, TX.
James, Jr and his wife and mother are all buried in Murray Co, Dougherty, OK.
Any help appreciated on this line.
