The CEF database is an index to those 620,000 Attestation Papers and
Enlistment Forms held by the National Archives. In addition, approximately
250,000 scanned images of some of the Attestation papers are available on
the database, mostly for individuals whose surnames start with the letters
"A", "C", "S" and "Mc/Mac". They also include the part of the letters "B"
and "T". More will be added as the scanning project continues.

Two die in stampede at Gambian school sports meet
BANJUL, April 8, 2001 (Reuters) - Two teenagers were killed and 70 others
injured in a stampede at a Gambian school athletics contest, after someone
sprayed insecticide into a crowd of spectators, officials said on Sunday.
A girl aged 16 and a boy of 15 died after a stampede at an inter-school
athletics competition at the Independence Stadium near Banjul, the president
of Gambia's Secondary Schools Sports Association, Willy Carr, told Reuters.
"The stampede was caused by the spraying of insecticide by an unidentified
person. Perhaps they wanted to have fun and maybe they did not (think) about
the consequences," Carr said.
Earlier state television in the tiny West African country had reported that
four people had been killed in the crush in the overcrowded stadium.
Carr said 70 people received medical treatment after the stampede, of whom 14
were still in hospital.

Subject: James Karr from New Jersey
Hi Jane,
Found an entry of yours on one of the Karr message boards and you seem to be
extremely knowledgeable about the Karr family.
I have a James Karr born abt. 25 Aug 1780 in New Jersey married to an
Elizabeth Robbins also from New Jersey. I've been told that her family name
may have been Robinson at one time. James and Elizabeth had a daughter,
Lydia, married to my John Ely. They removed from NJ to OH and James died in
Preble, Co., OH. Does any of this sound familiar?
Pat
I switched the daughters before on the Crenshaw marriages and sliped on the

After researching the CARR - WINSTON Marriage This is what conclusion I
have come to at this point, will kick this around with anyone intersted.....
Wiliam CARR (#2) b. abt 1707, prob New Kent Co., VA d. 1760, Spotsylvania
Co., VA married 1st Elizabeth WINSTON
Seems his 1st 6 children were by 1st wife.
Susannah CARR [abt1735-1800] m. abt 1751/2 William CRENSHAW
Sarah CARR [abt 1734- ] m. abt 1752 Mordicia Miller HORD
Mary CARR [abt 1739-] m. 1755 Nicholas CRENSHAW
Ann Winston CARR [1735-1839] m. 1760 George WALLER
William CARR [aft 1730-aft 1793] m. bef 1762 Alice (unknown)
Elizabeth CARR

prove her surname?) she m. 2nd abt 1760 Ludwick O'Neal & seperated 1783; 5

William CARR (#2) was the son of William CARR (#1) [abt 1680-aft 1711]

Elizabeth WINSTON was (only circumstancial evidence so far) daughter of
William WINSTON (#2) [d, 17245/27] and 1st wife Sarah (DABNEY). She is the
daughter of Cornelius Dabney [emigrant] and 1st wife Eedith (?).
Elizabeth (WINSTON) CARR was the 1/2 niece of Mary (Dabney) CARR wife of
Thomas CARR (#2).
This William WINSTON (#2) was married 2nd to Martha (Tomlin) Gouldman; and
3rd to Barbara OVERTON.
Had two proven sons by 1st wife (Isaac 1702-1730 no issue & William
"Essex" Winston abt 1703-1781) & two by third wife (James Overton Winston
1724-1772 & John Overton Winston 1726-).
Another interesting part to this is. Circles <g>
Thomas Swan d. 1704 King William Co VA names Thomas CARR (#1) & Mary
(?) in his will and was witness to many documents for Thomas CARR (#1). He
is believed to be the brother of Susannah (believed Swann) Dabney Anderson

Boston Fugitive Arrested in Texas
.c The Associated Press
BOSTON (AP) - A fugitive who allegedly faked his own death by submerging a
car in a river to avoid rape and kidnapping charges in 1984 has been arrested
in Texas, authorities said.
Charles Carr, 44, was apprehended in Fort Worth after his photo posted on the
Massachusetts State Police Web site generated a tip.
``They had not one but two experts look at his fingerprints. We're 100
percent sure that we have the man now that we're looking for,'' said Lt.
Kevin Horton, a detective with the Massachusetts State Police.
Carr allegedly kidnapped and raped a 15-year-old girl in Boston 17 years ago.
At the time, he was on probation for a kidnapping in New Hampshire, and was
out on $10,000 bail on another New Hampshire rape charge.
Carr has been missing since December 1984, when a car rented in his name was
found submerged in a river in Portland, Maine. A suicide note was in the car
with Carr's wallet, but no body was ever found.
Police reports at the time noted that the accident appeared staged and that
Carr was probably still alive.
On Thursday, authorities staked out Carr's Fort Worth home and took him into
custody when he emerged.
He was to be arraigned Friday on a charge of being a fugitive from justice.
He could be returned to face prosecution in Massachusetts as early as next
week, Horton said.

progress. All index entries for articles after January 1, 1998,
appear in the web version only. Prior to that the
citations may be found in a card catalog in the Kentucky

from the card catalog are gradually being added to the

to consult the cards for listings from 1787-1997.

Greetings Carr Researchers,
I am a new member of this list. I have read several of the Carr listings and have not found
information on my line. I am looking for any clue at all as to the identity of Eliza Carr who married
Charles Cartmill on 27 January 1830 in Bath County, Kentucky. I have my entire Cartmill line but
can't even find the parents of Eliza. Charles was born in 1810 in Bath County so I can only assume
Eliza was born around that same time. If anyone has any hints, clues, sources of information I might
need to check, please advise. I have gathered information on several Carr families just hoping to find
a clue but no luck as yet. The Bath County census offer no clues for me. I have checked surrounding
counties on the web (I don't live in Kentucky) but Eliza eludes me. Any suggestion at all will be most
appreciated.
