In 1797 Reverend David Badgley led a group of 154 settlers from Hardy CO
VA (now WVA) to IL. Several Carr brothers are associated with this
migration but confusion exists as to whether one or some of them went
with Badgley or may already have been in Illinois. I am trying to
reconstruct the list of travelers and will welcome help from CARR
experts. I have Leonard Carr making a preliminary journey Hardy
CO>IL>Hardy CO with Badgley in 1796 then probably returning with the
larger group in 1797. But by other accounts, Leonard Carr was in
Illinois as earlier than 1796, having traveled there by raft on the Ohio
River in 1793 with his brothers Joseph, Henry, and Abner. I would
appreciate hearing from anyone who knows about CARR in Hampshire or
Hardy CO VA ca 1780's and 1790's and then in Illinois after 1797. Please
contact direct. Thanks, Nora Tocus

Right now my best guess, and probably true from data, for the parents of
Elizabeth (Winston) Carr 1st wife of William Carr d. 1760 he m. 2nd
Susannah (maybe Brooks) has anyone prove the 2nd wife's surname?
Elizabeth Winston is believed to be the daughter of William Winston (2) &
his 1st wife Sarah (Dabney) Winston [two sons proven], he m. 2nd Martha
Thomlin widow of Edmund Gouldman (no issue), and he m. 3rd Barbara Overton
(two sons proven).
William Winston (2) is son of William Winston (1) and Sarah (?).
Sarah Dabney is daughter of Cornelius Dabney and 1st wife Edith (maybe
Morrison/Moryson).
This Cornelous Dabney & 2nd wife Susannah (some say Swann, unproven) were
the parents of Mary Dabney who m. Thomas Carr (2) son of Thomas Carr (1)
and Mary (?)
I have Cornelious ancestors back several generations in England.
If any one is interested in this line please request documentation. Thank you.

Hello Carol,
One of individuals you show on your email re the VA CARRs shows a date of
birth reasonably near that of my GG Grandmother, Susannah Carr b. 1804
presumeably in VA. Does your data by any chance show her as perhaps a
sister to cousin to
your:

??
Susannah CARR m. John Wesley CARMACK in Overton Co., TN in 1822.

I haven't written for many months and since there has been so much traffic
lately I thought I would try again. I am related to Carr's on both my
father and mother's sides of the family. My father, Wilton Andrew Carr, b.
Dec. 18, 1901-d. February 15, 1985 was the son of Clayborn Carr, b. Nov.
27, 1864 - d. July 14, 1925. Clayborn's father was Andrew Jackson Carr, b.
February 28, 1834, d. February 23, 1914. His mother was Sara Rutan Carr,
b. Sept. 10, 1843 - d. Mar. 2, 1921. Andrew's father was John Carr, b. May
21,1804 in Ky and d. June 9, 1964 - married Sarah Comer Wilson in
Washington Co. IN , in 1829 and later moved to Martinsville, Morgan Co,
IN. Around 1863 the family moved to Cumberland Co. IL. I have some belief
that John's father was Jonathan Carr and mother was Martha? Would love to
go back further.
My mother Ruth Elizabeth Connor Carr was the daughter of Charles M Connor
and Clyta McNutt. Charles's father was John Tipton Connor and his mother
was Jacy Carr Connor, thense the Carr's on both side of the family. Jacy's
father was Hiram Carr b. 9-25-1822, d. 7-05-1882 and her mother was Susan
Ricks, 9-20-1826, d. 7-23-1900. Hiram's father was Elisha (Eli) Carr, b.
2-24-1789 in KY and d. 9-18-1843. He married Rachael A. Claycomb b.
5-20-1794, d. 6-10-1826. They lived for some years in Rome, Perry Co.,
IN. Eli's father was Absolom Carr, b. abt. 1763 in Fayette Co., PA, d.
1829 in Meade Co., KY. He married Ruth White, b. 1767 in PA around 1790
in Fayette Co., PA. Absolom's father was John Carr, b. about 1720 in
Ireland (?) d. 1-10-1992 in Georges Township, Fayette, Co, PA. His mother
was Elizabeth Cross b. abt 1720 in Maryland, m. in Maryland, d. 1-31-1803
in Georges Township, Fayette, Co.,PA. If anyone has any of my Carr's I'd
love to hear from you. I have quite a bit of info on John and Elizabeth's
children. Absolom, Thomas m. Hannah Coombs, Elijah m. Elizabeth White,
Rachael m. Isaac White, Elisha m. Nancy Coombs, Elizabeth m. Richard
Ashcraft,John m. Elizabeth White, Moses m. Catherine Case, Mary m. Isaac
Sutton, Rebecca m. Caleb Reed, Abigail m. John White. I can't authenticate
John's birth (when and where) or his parents and ditto for Elizabeth
Cross. Any help out there. Thanks Marilyn Carr Scott
Carol,
Here's what I have on Nicholas Crenshaw and Mary Carr.

I have no data connecting Elizabeth Winston to any parents, but have good
data as to marriage of James [William?] Carr to Barbara Overton (5 Feb
1690/91-30 Oct 1766), daughter of William Overton and Elizabeth Waters,
emigrants. An unpublished, 2-page, typewritten document by Margaret R.
Hitchcock on file in the Albemarle County Historical Society Library is
entitled "Copied from the Overton Family Bible at Prospect Hill July 23rd,
1929". On page 2 it gives a marriage [no date recorded by me, at least] of
Barbara Overton to James Winston. It further states: "The will of Barbara
Overton Winston is now in the possession of James Overton Winston of
Richmond. It is witnessed by Patrick Henry. Copies of the will and one
grant of William's are in the possession of Margaret Montiero Berry."
Another source, W. P. Anderson, <Anderson Family Records> (Cincinnati, OH:
1936), p. 140, gives the name of Barbara Overton's husband as "John Winston."
Good luck!

Looking for descendants of Ellen A. CARR and Charles W. PARKER - they lived
in Michigan in 1899; their daughter Corinne Parker, who later married Paul
Clark, who worked for the Free Press, was born in Detroit. This information
obtained from Corinne Parker Clark's Social Security application, May 14,
1937.

RE: Carol Mitchell' s query based on "William Temple of Prince George County
Virginia and His Descendants".
Carol, all of my data and several separate sources point to Elizabeth Carr,
who married about 10 Aug 1767 Nathaniel Anderson, as the daughter of John
Carr of "Bear Castle", Louisa County (1706-1778) and his second wife, Barbara
Overton (1720-1794). Elizabeth died before 1793, and she bore three children
who lived to adulthood: William (d. 22 Sep 1822), Mary "Polly" (d. aft 1828),
and Overton (d. 19 Nov 1809). Nathaniel married, second, Sarah ________, who
is named in his will and who bore their son Nathaniel [2nd]. My marriage
source was not primary, but generally reliable: Sarah Travers Lewis (Scott)
Anderson, <Lewises, Meriwethers and Their Kin>, (Baltimore: Genealogical
Publishing Co.). p. 286.
Nathaniel Anderson, son of David and Elizabeth (Mills) Anderson, purchased
the old Glebe house of St. Anne's Parish, Totier Creek, Albemarle Co.,
Virginia and made it his home. His will dated 29 Apr 1811 and proved 7 Dec
1812 in Albemarle Co. includes a bequest to son William a cherry desk and
bookcase "being the same I purchased at the sale of his grandfather Carr".
The naming of a son Overton, the placement of this family well west of
Spotsylvania Co. (i.e., in Louisa and Albemarle), and assertions of an
Anderson / Overton genealogist, W. P. Anderson (<Early Descendants of Wm.
Overton and Elizabeth Waters of Virginia, and Allied Familles> (Cincinnati,
OH, 1938, p. 60), all lead me to conclude that Elizabeth was daughter of John
Carr, not William Carr.
