Subject: [LIV] Magull Residents - 1861 census
Hello Listers,
I have just received an extract of the 1861 census for the Liverpool
Road,Maghull, Lancs.
The family I'm interested in who are living at No11 are as follows:
JOHN CARR age 58 born Longton, Lancs.
ANN CARR age 45 born Altcar, Lancs
ELIZABETH CARR age 16 born Altcar, Lancs
MARY CARR age 8 born Altcar, Lancs.
CHRISTOPHER CARR age 6 born Downholland, Lancs
RICHARD CARR age 2 born Maghull, Lancs.
JOSEPH CARR age 1month born Maghull, Lancs.
The other families on this Liverpool Road census extract, which may be of
interest to other listers are as follows:
The family of James Mason age 31 born Aughton, Lancs. living at No 8
" " " Joseph Forster age 38 born North Meols, Lancs. living at
No 9
" " " Joseph Gristenthwaite age 70 born Lanthorn, Lancs. living
at No 10
" " " James McKeane age 37 born Scotland living at No 12
I may have got the spelling slightly wrong on some names as I'm reading from
the original transcript, which is written in archaic English. If anyone
needs more information on the family's of the above mentioned please contact
me.
Regards,
Brian
I received a copy of information on my husband's Wynne family and the very
first item was on a CARR.
Fayette Co., PA, Georges Twp. Deed Book 7, page 82.
"The Commonwealth by patent dated 10th day of April 1793 did grant to Thaoms
Carr a certain tract of land called St. Thomas, situate[d] on a branch of
Georges Creek called York's Run, on the road leading from Uniontown to line
ford on Cheet River in Georges township, Fayette County. And whereas the
said Thomas Carr and Hannah his wife by deed 29th March 1806 to Ezekiel
Ayers. . ."
The rest deals with the said Ayers and his intestate account.
_Nixon Family Memorials Published for the Descendants of William Nixon and
his wife Yanacha Ayers of Sussex County, New Jersey_.. Editor Jean W. Cox.
1970, page 462. Copy of a partial manuscript concerning the Wynnes written
on what appears to be a computer. No copyright noted, but still....give
credit if you use it.
;-)
BTW, I'm gathering even more of my husband's NY CARR information, including
death and burial of the patriarch, Francis Carr in Oswego Co., NY. Sent by a
KS
whose mother is in the Westmonroe Historical Society.
Thank goodness for Kind Souls.

Well, I can answer one part of the puzzle. Carr Family Records, by Edson
Carr (1894), pp 304-5, has a listing for Hiram Smith Carr b Waterborough, ME
on 11 Apr 1834, married Elizabeth W Moore, in New York,, on 25 Jun 1861. She
was born in New York 10 Jun 1838. He died in Limerick, ME 17 Oct 1873. "She
resides in New York." (circa 1890) Children:
May Eloise Carr 11 Jul 1863
Lillian Moore Carr 23 Aug 1865
Inez Frances Carr 28 Feb 1868 26 Mar 1889
He goes another generation, luckily, with this Lillian Moore Carr who
shares your Nellie M Carr's dob. (I don't know whether Nellie can be short
for Lillian. I always thought it was short for Eleanor.) See pg 456 of Carr
Family Records. Edson says Lillian was born in Springfield, MA and married a
Gilbert C Hibbard 22 Oct 1888 in New York City. Does that sound like your
Nellie? Of course, it's been a hundred years and other research has been done
in the interim, and Edson Carr's been wrong and/or totally confused on more
than one occasion.

Pat,
I think that you will that Margaret M Anderson is actually Margaret
Manderson daughter of Susannah Murphy and John Manderson. I show her
married to Stanmore Butler Carr in Wilkinson Co, GA, 25 Nov 1836. Your
records show her husband as William Stanmore Carr. I related in a previous
email that I had seen some information that Stanmore Carr was named for
Stanmore Butler, South Carolina Clerk of Court. Your record of William
Stanmore Carr is interesting because Stanmore Carr and Margaret Manderson's
oldest son is named William Bartley Carr. Do you have any more information
on this line of Carrs?
Regards,
Marty Martin
>>
Marty--
Thanks for the note. I gleaned some information from a posting, probably to
the AOL Genealogy Forum, back on 26 Nov 1994 from someone with the email
address currycarr(a)aol.com. That address is no longer valid. The posting
provided the information you saw: William Stanhope Carr b 1812 in either NC
or TN, married Margaret M Anderson b 1818 GA.
Thanks for the update. I added your Stanhope Butler Carr b 1812 when you
wrote last time, but neither of us apparently realized that I had a near
match already in the database. I've updated my records and merged the
individuals. I left the other names as variations for the time being.
Do you have further information or a site where I can collect some more
details on this family for my database?

I believe that would be a specific line of CARRs who came to Mercer. But the
annual meeting of the Kerr Family Association, which includes KERR and CARR
(as well as KER, KARR, CARRE, CAER) is held at the Grandfather Mountain
Scottish Games every July.
Joseph J. Carr
Does anyone know exactly when and where the annual Carr family reunion is held and who the contact is? I believe that it is held in Mercer County, Kentucky but I'm not sure.

I know of a Robert Carr in Halifax Co VA court orders who I am speculating may be
kin to a Thomas and William Carr who are direct ancestors of my paternal line.
He, Robert Carr, is bound to Nathaniel Terry, (later a Colonel from Halifax VA in
the Revolutionary War) in 1756. The source is the Halifax County Court Orders,
Plea book 2 page 184. Other Carrs mentioned around that time frame from there are
Susannah, John, Thomas, Arthur and Isaac Carr. Can anyone see a connection to
another specific family from another county?

I have posted before regarding this subject, but it was a while ago, so I'll
give it another try !!
Anyone out there doing any research or has a links to Carrs living in
Cheshire in the 18th and 19th century ??
I'd be interested to hear from anyone who thinks they may have links.
Regards
Martin Edwards

Hi Pat,
I don't know if I've bugged you yet in my search but I noticed that you have
Carr's from Jackson County, Arkansas... My Carr's come from Jackson County as
well and dad tells me they hale from Kentucky also. I was wondering if I
could pick your brain on a few names. Below is what I know so far
Arnold Cemetery, Jackson Co., Arkansas/ Swifton area
CARR, Allen (9 Mar 1870 - 28 Dec 1895) ggrandfather's brother ?
CARR, Edgar (12 Jun 1896 - 18 Jun 1954) my great uncle
CARR, G. A. (3 May 1876 - 14 Oct 1913) ggrandfather's brother
CARR, George N. (10 Feb 1884 - 13 Feb 1906) think this is George W's son
CARR, George W. (6 Sep 1860 - 22 Mar 1910) Ggrandpa' brother
CARR, John (23 Nov 1866 - 21 Mar 1910) My Great grandfather
CARR, Mary Ann (28 Aug 1881 - 31 Oct 1900) ?
CARR, Sam (1897 - 1951) ?
My great grandfather John Richard Carr was married twice, 1st wife I believe
was Gracie Garner they had Clyde, Claude, Clarence and Edgar H. Carr. He was
then married to Mirta (myrtle) Galloway (1899) and had Minnie, Bennie and
Gracie Carr. He died in a accident with a ax.
Would any of these names sound familiar to you? Thanks for your time

I checked for matching dobs and names on the oldest and found nothing. There
may be something in that CARR_ARJacksonCo, but I don't have time to check
through that today. I've added your relatives and will upload an updated
Rootsweb page within the month. Maybe someone will find a match there and
write us. I appreciate you sending me a note. I'll forward this to the
CARR_L, too.
This is what I've added. If you can augment it, let me know.

Hi Pat,
I just finally found a link to my CARR's. My grandfather Sanford Lindsey
CARR was the son of Edward D.CARR and Carrie M. Shuttleworth. From another
cousin I learned that Edward either owned or was part owner of CARR China Co.
of Grafton, WV. Do you know anything about that company or have any other
information on that family? Also I misplaced the link to your pages, could
you please send it to me again? Thank you so much for any help you might be
able to give.

A matter of fact I have the following on that company. I'd appreciate some
dates and places of birth and death, etc on these folks when you get chance,
or maybe you can point me in the right direction on the web to find that
info. Thanks.

Does anyone know anything about a Carr China Company that operated out
of Grafton, W VA up until about 1948? They were best known for their quality
restaurant grade heavy china.
Have been curious as to the founders/owners of the company. Were they
a member/branch of the CARR family? What branch?
I have a couple of pieces of their china including a piece from Bangor
House hotel in Bangor, ME.
And I'm always looking for further information on Daniel CARR who was
taken prisoner by the Indians in a prelude to the Wyoming (PA) Massacre 30
Jun 1778. He was later released or escaped as he had two sons that we know
of, James Hadsell CARR b:1790 and Daniel[2] CARR b: 1795. His father-in-law
and brother-in-law, James Hadsell Sr and Jr were killed the same day he was
taken prisoner. Daniel[1] CARR's wife was Amy/Rachel HADSELL.

Carr China was made from the local clay of W.V. which is a very good
quality clay. Carr was a very respected china/pottery house. Thier china was
and is very well made and sturdy. They made a lot of restaurant dinnerware
and items for the armed services too. The Company went out of business in
the late forties....50 yrs ago so Carr china is getting scarce. A lot of
thier china was utilitarian (plain but good quality) but they did make some
nicely done pieces too.
