I would also like to know if anyone has found any "proof" of these names if
anyone can find it. However the common name sequence used at the time to
name children or family tradition handed down really is not proof.
Proof would probably show up in King and Queen, New Kent or King William
County Va.
Gideon Carr was in Louisa County 1734-1740 era, as a Lawyer at the time
before his child William Carr was born about 1740.
Any one ever see anything? On a Winston or Meekins married Carr?

Hi, all -
from the "Providence (RI) Journal" January 7, 1863
"The funeral of Lieut. Thomas H. CARR. of Company II, Second Rhode Island
Regiment, was solemnized on Saturday afternoon, at his late residence in
this city. The Rev. Dr. Hall officiated, and the mournful exercises were
attended by a large number of relatives and friends, representing many of
the most estimable families in this community. Lieut. Carr was one of those
noble young men who early devoted their military knowlege and personal
services to the support of the government, in its perilous extremity. The
hand of disease, that has now so prematurely interrupted the career of our
lamented friend, prevented his taking the field so early as his patriotic
impulses prompted him to do, but the time that he was in active service
sufficed to prove that he was no unworthy decendant of his Revolutionary
grandsire. The writer of this paragraph enjoyed a few days intimacy with
him while in camp near the bloody field of Antietam, and had frequent
occasion to remark the respectful regard manifested for him by the men of
his command, and the high estimation in which he was held by his brother
officers. The news of his decease will be received with sincere regret by
the members of his regiment, as it has been by that wide circle of friends
with whom he was associated in the more peaceful walks of life. His aged
mother - now left childless - and his wife and two lovely children, have the
warmest sympathy of his companions-at-arms and the entire community where he
dwelt. His record is none the less honorable because he escaped the
vicissitudes of war to die among his friends at home. Bravely he discharged
his duty at the battle front, and he has now entered upon his rest."
This is additional info to another post I made previously (below):
The Second Rhode Island Regiment: A narrative of Military Operations...
by Augustus Woodbury
Providence: Valpey, Angell & Co., 1875
p. 381 "In Memoriam"
"First Lieutenant Thomas H. CARR, born in Providence, May 2nd, 1826, was the
son of Samuel and Mary T. Carr. He was instructed at the academies in
Plainfield, Connecticut, and Uxbridge, Massachusetts. Previous to the war
he was engaged in business pursuits. He entered the army as second
lieutenant of Company E in the Second, November 7th, 1861. He was promoted
to first lieutenant of Company H, January 24th, 1862. He faithfully
performed the duties of his office, in the different service which the
Regiment performed, and is spoken of as 'a brave, efficient and worthy
officer and soldier'. His military life and the privations connected with
it impaired his health, and he returned home on sick leave in the autumn of
1862. He gradually failed in strength, and died on the 1st of January, 1863."

Article entitled "New Design - Monroe County"
" .....
In the years 1796 and 1797 important additions were made in the New
Design settlement. Soloman shook and Mr. Borer arrived from Virginia in
1796, and the next year witnessed the coming of a large colony from the
county adjacent to the south branch of the Potomac and Hardy county,
Virginia. A year or so previous David Badgeley, Leonard Carr, Daniel
Stookey, Abraham Eyeman, Mr. Whetstone and Abraham Stookey, made the journey
from Virginia on horseback and thoroughly explored the county with the view
of selecting a good location for their neighbors in Virginia. David
Badgeley, who was a Baptist preacher, held religious meetings in the
American settlements.
The summer in 1797 was uncommonly wet and rainy, and the streams
between Fort Massacre and Kaskaskia were all swollen beyond their banks.
After arranging their wagons and horses and making all things ready for the
journey, they sent out from Fort Massacre for New Design. The ravages of
disease carried off almost one half of this Virginia colony during the first
summer and fall of their arrival. The prevailing sickness was a malignant
fever supposed to be contagious. Scarcely a household but mourned the loss
of one or more of its members.
After 1797 the county was healthy, and that part of the colony which
remained did well, and many furnished many valuable citizens. The Carr,
Stookey, Eyeman, Shook, Mitchell, Clark, Badgeley, Teter, Miller and other
families left numerous respectable descendants. About 1800 many, among whom
were Edward and Thomas Todd, moved from New Design to the American Bottom.
The neighborhood of the present city of Belleville in St. Clair county
received a number of early settlers from this colony.
....."
I don't know whether this information was previously submitted, but found it
while scanning through the pages on Monroe County.
