Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I got my Tree Talks issue the other day. It is a publication of the Central
NY Genealogical Assn. This quarter's issue was the 1825 NY State Census,
Herkimer Co. It contains two Carrs, as follows:
1) William Carr
Herkimer, NY (Herkimer Co), pg 3
2 Males, 2 Females, 2 Males Eligible to Vote
I have no likely suspects.
2) Eleazer Carr
Salisbury, NY (Herkimer Co), pg 2
5 Males, 3 Females, 1 Male 18-45 Subject to Military Duty, 1 Male Eligible to
Vote, 1 Colored Person, 1 Unmarried Female 16-45, 1 Female Under 16, 1 Death
of a Male in the Household in the Previous Year.
The Eleazer household should be identical with that of Eleazer and Hannah
(Hakes) Carr, of Salisbury, NY, but the data includes many more folks than
reported in The Carr Book, by Arthur Carr, pg 101. Eleazer born abt 1777;
wife Hannah Hakes b 1779 died 30 Nov 1857; dau Ormenda b 15 Nov 1802 m Harry
Burrell 7 Apr 1823 in Salisbury; dau Vienna b 24 Mar 1804 m Thomas A Rice in
1825; Malvina b 1806 d 2 Jul 1829; Eleazer b 9 Dec 1811 d 18 Sep 1869 m
Hannah Raynor 5 Jan 1832 in Salisbury.
Note that Hannah Raynor is likely the daughter of David Raynor, of Fairfield,
NY (Herkimer Co), pg 12 in 1825 census. Three Raynor families are listed
together there: John, David and Stephen, but only David's family had eligible
daughters in the proper age group (under 16 in 1825) for young Eleazer (13 in
1825).
Maybe the Eleazer Carr household includes some of Hannah Hakes' family or a
daughter's line. The latter seems unlikely, however. The two eldest daughters
were married on or before 1825, and the husbands are not enumerated in the
1825 census, but large families with the surnames of the new husbands are
located in the town of Salisbury and might be sheltering the young families
of the sons. The female born between 1809 and 1825 is also a mystery. Note
that a colored person lives in the household, probably one of the five adult
males.
I noted that Stutely Carr born 5 Jul 1773 had a series of children, including
George, Amasa and Eleazer, born in Herkimer Co, NY in the late 18th century.
But they seem to have moved on to Dryden, NY (Tompkins Co) after the War of
1812. Stutely Carr's son Eleazer wasn't married until 1837.
Eleazer Carr born 11 Apr 1790, also wasn't married until after this census.
Can anyone reconcile either of the above census records involving Carrs?

Couple of things:
1) You might want to look at Archibald B Carr b 3 May 1870 who married Phoebe
Christine Bright on 30 Dec 1893 in Tucker Co, WV. (see chart below) Let me
know if you link them. Good luck.
2) I have this note in my database on a Webb Carr. Right general timeframe,
but wrong geographically. Maybe the nickname coming from Webster will give
you some new directions. FYI. Pat

Hi, Pat!
I found your Carr database at Rootsweb. I'm looking for ancestors of John
Perry Kerr (bd. 4-1868/dd.8-19-1956) in Whitley County, KY. He was married
to Ella Brummett and lived in the Wofford community in Whitley County. John
and Ella are buried in the Wofford Cemetery. They are my great
grandparents. I know John had a brother James Kerr, a sister Sarah Kerr
Drake, and a brother Daniel Carr (who it was told in the family was a half
brother having the same mother). Do you have any info on JP and family? I
would appreciated any help I can get. Thanks! Donna Smith

I found Carrs mentioned in an article in the latest Time magazine on how some
siblings stop seeing each other, falling out of relationship. I figured it
had to run in the family! Pat
"Major life changes such as marriage, divorce, birth, illness or death
can trigger a separation, [Carol] Netzer says, but usually only if tensions
have been building for years. Consider, for example, the case of Michael
Carr, 42, a money manager, and his older brother, Steven, who ended contact
with each other two years ago. When they were growing up, Michael saw Steve,
two years older, as his best friend and guardian angel. "We were really
close," Michael says. "He was the ringleader in the neighborhood. He was my
hero." (Steven did not respond to requests for an interview.)
In the early '70s, Michael says Steven became temperamental and less
reliable, no longer resembling the person Michael had admired. Steven wasn't
crazy, Michael says, just increasingly moody and self-centered. About six
years ago, their father was hospitalized, and the brothers went to Florida to
see him. They stayed with their stepmother, with whom Steven had a quarrel.
Steven told Michael he was going to the hospital to tell their father about
it. "It was ridiculous," Michael says. "My father was at death's door, and my
brother wanted to complain to him about my stepmother! I had to physically
restrain him from going."
Their father died that night, and Michael hasn't seen his brother
since the funeral. "I wouldn't be surprised if I never see him again,"
Michael says. "If I saw him on the street I would talk to him, but I wouldn't
let him back into my life. I don't know who he is."
Caption to three photographs: The Carr Family: Brothers Michael and Steven
with their stepmother in 1991, and as young baseball fans. A sometime
vocalist, Michael recently recorded a CD at a studio in New York City.
Source: "Why We Break Up with our Siblings", by Lise Funderburg, Time
magazine, 18 Dec 2000, pg 74
NOTE: The brothers went to Florida after their father was hospitalized six
years ago. If they haven't spoken since the father died, and they haven't
spoken for two years, then the father must have died two years ago. Did they
spend four years in Florida? Or did they visit their father after four years
hospitalization? Or is Time magazine just all mixed up?

US FCC wireless auction nets $501.2 mln on first day
By Jeremy Pelofsky
WASHINGTON, Dec 12, 2000 (Reuters) - A dash for fresh new airwaves began in
earnest on Tuesday with wireless companies offering a net $501.2 million
after two rounds of bidding for licenses that will advance deployment of
mobile wireless devices. <snip>
Eighty-seven bidders are competing for 422 licenses that will enable them to
launch new products, fill gaps in coverage and improve service in a sale of
spectrum that analysts expect will be the most lucrative in U.S. history.
"You're seing a little positioning when you see people bidding on large
markets now, but it will take some time before people really start to show
their hand," said Carr Krueger, a partner with Arthur Andersen. <snip>
"I don't think it's coming out of the blocks exceptionally strong. I would be
surprised it we hit the $15 billion," said Krueger. <snip>
More information about the auction can be found on the FCC's Internet site:

Mr Unruh,
Thank you very much for writing. I would indeed be interested in the
information from the family bible. If the information is extensive or if it
simply would be more convenient for you, I could pay for you to photocopy it
and send it to me. Let me know.
Below are some emails from folks researching William King Carr, as well as an
Elisha Carr born abt 1805 and living in Macon Co, TN in the 1850 Federal
Census.
I am copying this email to the Carr List at Rootsweb. Those who want further
information on this can check my Rootsweb database for updates on this

Thanks for the added information. In the sources I have I've only seen
Hannah Hobbs-Oglesby as a hyphenated name. I've too wondered if this
was a first marriage, but have been unable to pin it down.
I checked back on the records of William King Carr and Louisa
Chamberlain. Those dates were wrong. From a hand written testament I
have in the files I see it should have been:
William King Carr b. 29 March 1816 died 7 Sept. 1885
Married Louisa Chamberlain (Indian) on 22 Feb. 1838. Louisa was born 11
May 1819 and died 30 Nov. 1888.
Stay in touch.

with her mother Sarah age 80, a daughter Christine age 11 and a male Elisha
CARR age 45.
I believe that Sarah is actually Sarah HARDIE CARR with the census taker
listing her as a Hardie because she had inherited her family farm.
Do you have an Elisha CARR b 1805 or maybe a Christine CARR b1839? Thanks so
much for checking.
I am a HARDIE descendant.
Thanks so much.
Ida Deal
REPLY: Ida --
Thanks for the note. I don't have this Elisha in my database. I tried the
Hardie?hardy information and looked for Christine/Christina Carr, etc, to no
avail. The only thing I found was a Macon Co, TN Carr in the mid-19th
century. See Jane Carr b 1790 (below), who died in Macon Co, TN in 1857.
Maybe there is a link?

Hi,
I've been working on my families names for many years, Ball, Eckert, Dorey...
Once in a while II would try and find some info on my ex husband and children's line of KAR and I haven't come up with anything. It's been getting very frustrating!
Grandpa Kar was born in Hungary and was raised near the Bavarian Forest...
he didn't give us much info to go on as he did not get along with his family and has since passed on.
Any hints or info that you can suggest would be much appreciated...
thanks!

Clinton to unveil air traffic control changes
Release at 7 a.m. EST Thursday (1200 GMT)
By Tim Dobbyn
WASHINGTON, Dec 7 (Reuters) - President Bill Clinton will announce steps on
Thursday to deal with worsening flight congestion and delays by making the
government's air traffic control arm a performance-based organization with
its own chief operating officer, administration officials said.
In addition, Clinton will propose eliminating the tax paid by airline
passengers that funds air traffic control operations and replacing it with a
system of user fees to be paid directly by commercial airlines, the officials
said.
The user fee proposal, which must be approved by Congress, has already been
criticised by airlines.
Clinton will ask the Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation
Administration to study the possibility of implementing "congestion pricing"
-- charging airlines higher landing fees at peak times.
Currently landing fees are determined by an aircraft's weight.
"These actions are part of a larger administration effort to improve airline
travel and reduce airline delays for American consumers," one administration
official said of the proposals, which Clinton will present at 11 a.m. EST
(1600 GMT).
The approach rejects the privatization route taken by some countries, a
decision welcomed by the National Air Traffic Controllers Association
(NATCA).
"NATCA is in complete agreement with the administration's position that air
traffic control is inherently governmental," said NATCA President John Carr.
"This executive order illustrates that the FAA has the latitude to achieve
efficiencies needed without the short-sighted and ill-conceived notion of
privatization," said Carr, without providing details of the plan.

I received the death certificate of my husband's great grandmother, Nancy
Louise Carr Francisco.
We had her information other than her birthplace, Mexico, NY, so of more
interest were her parents. This certificate confirmed that her mother was
Phela Heath of Corinth, VT and her father was "Frank" Carr, born in Boston,
Mass.
Frank was of course Francis Carr.
So now I ask, anyone have Carrs from Boston, Mass?
Francis was born ca 1806 in Boston, Mass. and died 8 Nov. 1883 is Costantia,
Oswego Co., NY.

"Capt. Philip CARR, the veteran steam-boat captain of our city, was born at
Warren, R.I., Feb. 23, 1823. He is the son of Capt. Turner and Sally
Jeffers (Sanders) Carr, of Warren. He is a lineal descendant of Robert
Carr, of Portsmouth and Newport, R.I., who was born in England in 1614, and
died in Newport in 1681. Two brother, Robert and Caleb Carr, sailed from
London in the ship 'Elizabeth and Ann' in 1635, and settled in Newport, R.I.
Caleb was subsequently Justice of General Quarter Sessions and the Court of
Common Pleas, and in 1695 became Governor of the State of Rhode Island under
the royal charter. Both Robert and Caleb had families, and became large
landed proprietors, owners of Gould and Rose Islands at Newport, with nearly
the whole of Dutch and Conanicut islands, and extensive tracts of land in
Narragasett and Coweset, purchased chiefly of the Indians. Robert's son
Caleb married Phillis Greene, lived in Jamestown, R.I., and died there in
1690. The latter's son Robert, born in Jamestown in 1683, married Hannah
Hall, and had three children, and died in Warren, R.I. His son Caleb, of
Newport, born there in 1719, married Ruth Miller and had ten children, and
died in 1767. His son Caleb, of Warren, was born there in 1743, and married
Lillis Barton of Warren, a cousin of Gen. William Barton, and granddaughter
of Governor Samuel Gorton, who though suffering much at the hands of
Massachusetts, came off finally triumphant, and in 1651 was Governor of the
United Colonies of Providence and Warwick. Captain Caleb Carr and his son,
Captain John (born in Warren in 1771 and died there in 1815, having married
Patty Davis and had eight children), were joint owners of the brig Rambler,
which sailed from Baltimore in February 1799, under the command of Captain
John Carr, was captured by a French privateer sailing under the authority of
the French Republic, and was subsequently taken from them by a Spanish
man-of-war, carried into the port of Barracoa and sold; the claim arising
from this case was allowed by Congress under the provisions of the French
Spoliation Act, and amounts to a considerable sum, not yet paid. John's son
John, of Warwick, who was born in Warren in 1795, married in 1824 Maria
Brayton, had six children, and died in 1873. The subject of this sketch
descended from a large number of prominent Rhode Island families.
Philip Carr received his education in the schools of Warren, and at the age
of twelve his adventurous spirit led him to ship as cabin boy on the old
sloop 'Fly', built by Major Caleb Carr, at the foot of Washington street,
Warren, and commanded by his son, Capt. Caleb Carr, Jr., and run in the
interests of a coastwide trade between Warren and Fall River, Somerset,
Bristol, Newport, Wickford, East Greenwich, and Providence. Here he
remained some three years and then shipped on the packet sloop 'Hope', in
command of Major Caleb Carr, which plied between Providence, New York, and
Albany. He was subsequently employed on the packet liner which plied
between the ports of Providence and New York. At the age of seventeen he
shipped on the schooner 'Pacific', bound for New Orleans and Texas. At the
end of nine months he returned to his home in Warren and learned the trade
of ship carpenter with his father, where he remained until the age of
twenty-one. During the last year Capt. Turner Carr and Capt. Philip Carr
built the sloop 'Sylph', and the latter took command as captain, and ran her
as a passenger and frieght packet between Providence and Warren. He
afterwards purchased the sloop 'Branch', and continued in the above line
until 1847, when he was tendered to command of the steamer 'John R. Vinton',
engaged in the freight traffic and in toawge [sic] for the Narragansett
Brick Company. In 1851 he was employed by the Commercial Steamboat Company,
as pilot of the steamer 'Pelican'. In 1852-3 he was in command of the
sidewheel steamer 'Blackstone', renamed 'Queen of May', and ran between
Boston and Nahant. Among the many steamers which Captain Carr was commanded
may be mentioned the 'Wm. H. Herrick', 'Fashion', 'Miantomomi', and
'Clifton'. In 1853 the steamer 'Sylph' was built and Captain Carr was
placed in command. During the year 1861 he was in the employ of the Erie
Railroad Company and commanded their screw steamer 'Eagle', which ran
between New York and Jersey City. Upon his return to Warren he was induced
to take command again of the steamer 'Sylph' for the Narragansett Brick
Company. He was afterwards tendered the command of the steamer 'Chicopee',
under the charter of Capt. William Winslow, and ran for a period between
Providence and Rocky Point. At the close of the excursion season he was in
command of the 'Sylph' during the winter months.
He was captain of the 'Delvan Peck', and in 1893 was placed in command of
the steamer 'Martha'. In 1894 he retired to private life with a well earned
and highly esteemed reputation. Although he has been always a hard working
man and is now well along in years (and old only in years) he is well
preserved, has a cheerful disposition and a good share on bon homie, which
qualities shorten no one's days. Captain Carr preserves a youthful flow of
spirits, takes great interest in the rising generation and its pursuits, and
loves sociality and friendly conversation. As an ocean navigator he takes
rank among the ablest in the line of captains.
His personal gallantry and skill have ever been conspicious and few
commanding officers have taken greater pains to perfect themselves or to
serve their company or patrons with greater loyalty. Captain Carr is a
charter member of the Warren Artillery and was actively engaged in the Dorr
War, and a well known member of the Providence Marine Society.
He married July 7, 1847, Mary Elizabeth Tyler, who died Oct. 1, 1879. Of
this union were born John Tyler, died June 8, 1894; Annie Majour; Philip
Augustine, captain of the steamer 'Wave'; Henry Martin, died May 8, 1856;
Mary Eliza, died April 10, 1863; Charles Turner, died March 13, 1865; Joseph
Warren, died April 27, 1863; Frank Taylor, now bookkeeper at Potter &
Gardiner's; William Mauran, died Oct. 13, 1869, and Walter Martin, engaged
in the bakery buisness [sic].
On Feb. 28, 1882, he was again united in marriage to Miss Susan Elizabeth,
daughter of Royal and Elizabeth Trask (Rich) Burnham, of Eastford, Conn.
Mrs. Carr is a lineal descendant of one of the most eminent and
distinguished men, Gen. Nathaniel Lyon, of Connecticut."
