Richard CARR was born on 5 Jan 1621 in London, England. He died on 17 May
1689. After the Death of his father Benjamin, Robert's mother (Martha
Hardington) sent him and his three brothers to live with their uncle
William CARR in America.
Both Robert and Caleb later settled in Newport, Rhode Island. Richard
removed to Salisbury, Mass., and Andrew went to sea.
(Andrew is the one who went to Barbados).
Andrew Carr was described in "House of Carr in America" as a seafaring man
who came to Rhode Island to join his uncle William, then departed for the
West Indies or Barbados.
According to "Carr Family Records" by Edison I. Carr, it is supposed that
he followed the sea with his uncle James Carr, and settled either in the
West Indies or South Carolina.
His son John Carr arrived in Charleston, South Carolina on the ship
"Blessing" in 1671 as one of the first group of permanent settlers from
Barbados.

Richard Carr was born early 1600's in London.
It's said he went to Sea and lived in Barbadoes, Caribbean,
His other brothers settled in RI.
It's been said a line of Carr's came to Charleston SC and spread NW up in to TN, also, it's believed this Carr line may have come from Barbadoes. Does anyone have a clue to any of this.

STEPHEN VINCENT BENET
ROSEMARY CARR BENET
Stephen Vincent Benet and his wife, Rosemary Carr, were often called by their
close friends "the last of the romantics." They worked harmoniously and
happily together. They possessed much originality and their mutual exchange
of ideas was delightful. However, their backgrounds were quite different.
Stephen was born on July 22, 1898, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He was the
youngest child of three. His parents were Captain James Walker Benet, United
States Army, and Frances Neill Rose. Being in the military, the Benets had
the opportunity to travel the country. The sweep of the country, the mighty
rivers, the prairies, the Great Salt Lakes, the Rocky Mountains, all had a
lasting impression on Stephen. He loved America and it would show in his
writings. Rosemary was born January 14, 1898 in Chicago, Illinois. She was
the only child of Thomas Carr and Rachel Hackey. Stephen and Rosemary met in
Paris in late 1920. It was love at first sight and they were married in
December of 1921. They had three children, Stephanie, Thomas Carr and Rachel
Felicity. In 1933, money was scarce for the Benets. Stephen and Rosemary
decided to write juvenile verses together. Most of their verses were history
based. A book they wrote together was A Book of Americans (1933) which was
very popular. Some verses were put into Braille and several were set to
music. Stephen Vincent Benet died in 1943 and Rosemary Carr Benet died later
in 1962.

These were the CARR entries found in the extraction of DeWitt County, IL
vital records rented from the LDS. Film L-67317, 1293528.
It is in alphabetical order so no page number given.
Limitations on this index include not listing every year, but keeping one
year, such as 1880 until using 1885, but having 1881, 1882, etc. in the
actual records. So if the years do not match what you have, it could be that
reason.

I found numerous errors in the index when I searched the actual records
shown, but it isn't really easy reading the records, so didn't check each
one. I can do so, but my time at the LDS is getting more and more limited.
I will do a search for a specific entry if the request is received before
Saturday. This is Wednesday.
The entry will have the parents' birthplace (usually USA) and the ages of the
parents and the doctor's names, sometimes the town.

RV Residents May Vote - for Now
.c The Associated Press
By JUAN A. LOZANO
HOUSTON (AP) - The right of 9,000 recreational vehicle dwellers to vote in
Polk County has been restored by a federal judge - for now.
The flap began when three Polk County residents complained the RV owners -
who call themselves the Escapees - should not be allowed to register to vote
using a local RV park's address because they spend most of the year traveling
and have their mail forwarded to out-of-county addresses.
The on-again, off-again challenge to their voting rights had been revived
Wednesday by the 9th Court of Appeals in Beaumont.
But it only lasted until late afternoon when three RV owners claimed in
federal court that keeping them from casting a ballot was a violation of the
1965 Voting Rights Act.
U.S. District Judge Howell Cobb's order superseded, at least temporarily, a
ruling by the 9th Court of Appeals that blocked a temporary injunction
against the challenge.
Cobb was to hold a hearing on the case Friday.
``It amazes me this is taking place,'' said Bud Carr, vice president of the
Escapees Club.
Also late Wednesday, the Texas Attorney General appealed to the state Supreme
Court to keep RV dwellers' voting rights in place, spokesman Mark Heckmann
said.
The voting conflict began Sept. 11 with the residents' complaints.
In response, Polk County Tax Assessor-Collector Marion A. Smith notified
about 1,000 RV dwellers by mail of the challenge.
If the RV owners failed to return the notices within 30 days, they would have
to meet additional requirements before being allowed to vote in the Nov. 7
election.
``All these people have to do is mail back the notice. What's the problem?''
said Buck Wood, the lawyer for the folks who complained. ``Are they very
worried these people live in Sun City, Ariz.?''
Polk County, about 75 miles northeast of Houston, has about 40,000 residents.

I keep receiving emails from Margaret Freemon (see below) but the reply
address is invalid. Lately the emails have been strange. If Margaret is a
member, would she send me a valid email address? If someone knows her correct
email address, would that person contact me? Thanks.

Hi Pat, I'm new at this so I do not know much about this internet stuff.
A note just came up on my computer about Jame McCuccin Carr from I think
Nansie Carr .
Well I am trying to find my James Carr born about 1866 in
Tennessee or Pennsyvania. On my Mothers birth certificate it say
Tennessee. His age at her birth was listed as 51 in 1917. My grandmother
wife of James was 43. She used the name Emmie. Her real name is Martha
E.Perry. Some of their children were born in Union County and some in
Claiborne County. One of the first was 1892 named Cleo. Lillie
1897,Charlie 1899, Beulah 1902, Roy 1903, Ethel 1908,Frances 1917. If
either of you know of this family I would greatly appreciate your help.

Hi Pat, I am Margaret from Michigan.
I am trying to find my grandfather,s parents. He is James C. Carr
born in Union Co. Tn. At least from what I have that seems to be
right. I have a Preston L. Carr with a son James K. but do not know
if James C. amd James K. are the same person. I have a 1900 census
with my James C. as born on 1863 but on my mother birth certificate
he is listed as 50 which would have him born in 1866. There was a
Luther listed above him as born in 1838 which I thought was most
likely his father. Is It possible that Luther is Preston L.? You help
wpuld be greatly appreciated. Margaret
