The GEHR thing is a puzzle. The KARRs who came in the Pennyslvania
Merchant in 1731 were listed in all the immigration books as GEHR. Their
names in Württemburg are definintely KARR and also in Berks Co, PA, where
they settled. It changed to CARR in VA. Since there was no adult male
who came with Crito KAR and her children, there was noone who signed the
passage book with their name. I guess it was the Captain of the boat who
made the mistake. Don't know how that was made. The other "mistake" is
that Crito came to the colonies with 3 girls and a boy. She is listed as
having a girl over 16 years old and three boys under 16 years old.
Must have been one of those trips where they thought Henry KAR was three
different boys!

My gr gr grandfather was Walter G. Warthen. He was born around 1800 in Prince
George Co., Va. The G. may have been a typo since he was called Carr. He
named one of his sons Carr, and he, in turn named his son Carr. This must be
a family name. Is the name Warthen/Worthen familiar to anyone out there?

Thanks for the data. I searched Phillipsburg and found no hits. I did find a

Hello, CARR researchers! I'm new to this list (but host 11 others!) and am
looking for a needle in a haystack.
My 3G grandfather was John GARRISON b. 7/11/1799 (tombstone says 1800) in
VA. His father was possibly John, his mother possibly Ellen (b. 1770 in
VA). He also may have had a brother, William b. 1803 VA. John m.
Elizabeth THOMPSON and their oldest son (my gggf) was William Greene
GARRISON (b. 1832 MO). William m. Martha LOWRANCE and their son (my ggf)
was Jason CARR GARRISON (b. 1868 MO).
Also in the GARRISON clan (but not connected to me yet) is a James CARR
GARRISON.
CARR must be a family name and I'm hoping one of you out there have a
GARRISON m. to one of your CARRS.
ANY help appreciated! Thanks.

My ggf was Jason Carr GARRISON b. 1868 in Lebanon, MO. He was the son of
William Greene GARRISON b. 1832 in Crawford CO., MO. William was the son
of John GARRISON b. 1799/1800. John's wife was probably Ellen and there
may have been a brother, William. John is my "brick wall".
I was sent info by a fellow researcher (and also found in the Caleb
GARRISON & Sarah FLEMING book) about a son of Caleb's named James Caleb
GARRISON. James Caleb m. Katie MORGAN. They had a son, Patterson, who
married Frances CARR of Milledgeville, GA. Patterson & Frances had a son
named Thomas Jasper who had a son named James Carr GARRISON (prominent in
the NY newspaper world and Editor/Publisher of the Pelham News).
My John b. 1799 could have been a contemporary of either James Caleb or
Patterson.
Thomas Jasper and William Greene could have been contempories.
James Carr b. 1870 St. Paul, MN and my Jason Carr b. 1868 Lebanon, MO. were
contemporaries.
Is it possible our two disparate lines merge back with Frances?
Can anyone give me more info on the CARRs of Georgia? I don't have a
maiden name for John's wife, Ellen, but she was b. 1770. Could she have
been a CARR?

Jason Carr Garrison, with his brother Christopher Columbus Garrison, left
Lebanon area of Laclede County, Missouri, and came to Ceres, California,
where together they purchased and successfully operated the butcher shop in
this tiny town. Later, they purchased a mercantile store which was run by
Christopher (known as Lum or CC). Jason went on to become assistant County
Assessor and then, County Assessor. The family still lives in Ceres,
California.
Jason and Christopher were my great-grandmother Dora's brothers. William
Greene Garrison and Sarah Adeline Browning had 10 children, 7 survived to
adulthood. Three moved to California: Dora, then Christopher, then Jason.
All lived her until their deaths and their descendants continue to live
here.
I have a little more information, but nothing beyond William Greene
Garrison and Sarah Browning. Sarah was born in Kentucky Sep 9,1834 and
died in Laclede County MO on Mar 25, 1901. William was born in Tennesse on
Feb 14, 1839 and died in Laclede County MO on Feb 7, 1920. The two were
married on Nov 25, 1858.
Maybe related?

Dear Mr. Noble:
I wondered if you'd heard of Priscilla Carr, who m. Samuel Eldridge10 Nov
1790 Nelson Co. KY. She is supp. to be the dau. of John and Mary (Case)
Carr. After John Carr died in Nelson Co., Mary (Case) Carr m. Moses Davis.
They had a son James who went to Madison & Fayette counties in IL, and James
had a son named Byram, which is an old New Jersey familiy. Before I was
looking for the Eldridges in Virginia, but now I'm wondering about New
Jersey. thanks. Gail >>
Gail --
I have a Priscilla Carr in your timeframe who was a Quaker. That could
explain the connection to old New Jersey, which was a major Quaker area.
You'll have to do some digging to find the venues of these monthly meetings
(MM) to see if this is a likely match.
Could you clarify who "they" are in the second paragraph? Samuel and
Priscilla (Carr) Eldridge?
I have the following (see below):
A reference to Nelson Co in the late 18th century, but I'm not sure which
state. Maybe Virginia. It concerns John Fendall Carr b 12 Nov 1764, whose
wife Elizabeth Dalton was said to be from Nelson Co.
A reference to a John Carr in Nelson Co, apparently Virginia. (see below).
A reference to Nelson Co, KY, showing a migration from OH to KY to AR in the
mid to late 19th century.
A series of correspondence re CARR/ICE and Nelson Co KY.
Good luck.

Hi Virginia,
I, too, had looked at the documentation on this William Carr (will proved 24
Feb 1703, Westmoreland County VA) as I thought he might be a brother of my
ancestor, Thomas(1) Carr who settled in King William in the late 17c., was a
member of St. Peter's Parish, built his home “Topping Castle” on the N.
Anna in what later became Caroline, became a powerful planter and Burgess for
King William for many years. Both names show up on various court documents
(as witnesses, or power of attorney
or such) together with a John Carr, all in various combinations. The close
association indicated brotherhood, or possibly cousins. Thomas (1) had a son,
Thomas(2) Carr who married Mary Dabney, daughter of Cornelius Dabney, and a
great-grandson Dabney(4) Carr who married Martha Jefferson, sister of Thomas
Jefferson and was the first person buried in the family graveyard at
Monticello.
Back to your William... it appears he is older than you claim. Please look at
The Virginia Genealogist, vol. 17 pp. 116-119, in an article on the Tidwell
family (William's daughter, Hannah, married a Robert Tidwell). Regarding
Joseph Carr, oldest son of William Carr, the article states “In a legal
proceeding concerning the death of Christopher Woolcock, Joseph Carr, the son
of William and Sarah Carr, swore on 8 Nov. 1704 that he was 45 years old ‘or
thereabouts,’ making him born about 1659.”
(see Westmoreland Co. Deeds and Wills vol.4 p.10). If Joseph was born about
1659, his father, William, was probably born at least 17 years earlier, that
is, in 1642 or before...at least 12 years earlier than you state, and
possibly more. Because of this early date, as well as being in the Northern
Neck instead of Tidewater Va), I have concluded that he is not the brother of
my Thomas(1) as I had originally thought. If this age is important in proving
your line, I suggest you look into it further. The Tidwell article also gives
other descendants that may interest you. Good luck
Allen Carr

Pat,
I am looking for a Stewart Carr his first name could be Calvary. The last
place I can put him is in MO. He had a son Calvin in 1887 born around
Lebanon MO. If you have any information please let me know.
Thanks
Debbie >>
I have a Calvary Carr, son of James, in the 1880 Federal Census for Ohio. I
don't have a record of all the source details on this one anymore, I'm
afraid. (see below)
I have a number of Calvins, but none within a five year span of 1887. Doyou
have a spouse for Calvin?

Does this family look like any KARR family you have seen? It's only a
possibility. On the 1850 census of Sinking Creek, 26 th. district I
have taken the Kerr names to see if any of the men could be sibling???
My ggg grandfather, James Karr b: abt 1795 VA. His father was said to
also have the name of James. There is a W. H. KERR b: abt 1792, and a
Thomas KERR b: abt 1793 all born in Virginia.
Please don't put this info in your records, I've not proven it yet. It
is just an... I wonder thing.
Bette
Hi,
I recently researched my grandfather's military record in order to apply for the
"Purple Heart" posthumously, that he so deserves. I was sent a three page
General Orders list from the First Division (The Big Red One) 18th Infantry with
names of those wounded with him in this division.
I came across the name Charles I. Kerr, 2nd Lieut. wounded June 19, 1918
Thought I would pass along in case he belongs to anyone.
