Ancestors and Descendents of Amasa Carr, Charles W. Carr, published in 1981.
The book contains the direct line back from Amasa who descends from Robert of
the Caleb and Robert, sons of Benjamin. It goes forward from Amasa and
contains all the descendants that Charles W. Carr could locate.
I have a copy of the book and will look up data in response to your e-mail.
Amasa is my Great Great Grandfather. Charles W. Carr is my uncle.
During a search for another ancestor branch of my fanily, I visited the Public
Library at Clinton, Anderson, TN. I found this book:
Bruce, Maupin, Carr and Some Related Families by Paul R. Bostic. Privately
published by Mr. Bostic in 1995.
It has the Benjamin Carr, Martha Hardington familiar to most Carr researchers.
It says that their son, Andrew, had a son, John. The are quite a few
descendents for this John Carr.

Hi Everyone!
Saw the discussion regarding Caleb Carr, Job Carr, etc. I just
received two new books last Friday that are a great source for early
ancestors. I have been reading these books nonstop since I received them!
Both books contain many references to Carrs as well as many other New England
persons.
The books are: Rhode Island General Court of Trials 1671-1704 and Gleanings
from Newport Court Files 1659-1783. The first was transcribed and the second
abstracted by Jane Fletcher Fiske. There is so much information in these
books, not only about Rhode Island people, but MA, CT, NY, the West Indies
and some from several other colonies. The books give occupations,
relationships (sometimes whole families), ages, locations and many other
tidbits. The history of colonial life itself is worth purchasing
the books. I would heartily recommend these books, especially the
Gleanings..to anyone doing New England research! I don't know the price of
each book since I bought both but interested persons can reach Mrs. Fiske at:
jfiske(a)earthlink.net. Hope this helps someone!

Hi Pat,
The reference librarian at the map desk of the Free Library of
PHiladelphia says that Tacony was subsumed by Philadelphia in 1854 but
was always in Philadelphia County. It was in the area or township of
Oxford. It was a little village originally called Buena Vista that sprang
up in 1847 around a terminus built by a Philadelphia railroad company. At
that point the railroad connected to a wharf on the Delaware River there.
The village was renamed Tacony shortly thereafter. The Philadelphia
County/City archives would have birth records.
The name Tacony comes from the Native American word Toaconic and is also
the name of a creek in Philadelphia.
The other possibility is that there was also a Tacony in Montgomery
County which stretches west and north of the city. A quick call to the
County library system would tell us whether or not there was a Tacony in
Montgomery. My budget doesn't allow me to make another long distance call
today for the genealogy cause but maybe I could justify in in a day or
two. Anyway, that's what we have so far.
Keep having fun.
Miranda Van Horn
Pat,
Tacony is now a section of Philadelphia. It was probably a
separate township and annexed at some time. I'll see if I can find out
when and in which county it was located. Montgomery County is not far off
but I might have guessed Bucks County. The Philadelphia Free Library has
a nice reference department. Maybe I can get a quick anser in the
morning. I'll be back.

If you have Carr/Kerr/Karr who were neighbors of Morrow in either NC, SC,
MO or TX, perhaps we have a connection:
Diantha M. "Di" CARR
born 1826 VA
died bef 1860 MO
--SPOUSE--
Joseph Taylor MORROW

4-Louisa J. MORROW
5-Lewis Cass MORROW
6-Awilda MORROW
7-John MORROW
8-William L. MORROW
9-Marion O. "poss. child" MORROW
Diantha's son Lewis said on the 1880 census that his parents were born in
Missouri. The 1850 Platte Co. Missouri census shows she was born in
Virginia and that is probably correct.
Her surname could be spelled Karr. This surname has been found in some
records in Platte Co. and Clay Co., Missouri and Tarrant Co., Texas and
some may be related to Diantha. There are Carr and Karr in the 1850 Platte
Co., Missouri census who may be related. Research in Polk Co. indicates
that the name was spelled Carr, Kerr, Keer, etc. and many of these persons
seemed to settle in the Looney/Mooney townships of Polk Co., Missouri.
They were from Kentucky and Tennessee. There were Carr buried in Polk Co.
cemeteries that could be related.
In the 1840 Polk Co., Missouri census, William Carr had two daughters in
the age bracket of Diantha. There is also a James Carr with daughters in
the right age bracket to be Diantha. Neither William or James are on the
1850 census and there is no will or probate for either of them.
In 1850 Pettis Twp., the same township Diantha and her husband lived in,
was a Margaret Carr age 66 born Kentucky living with Josiah Thorpe and Mary
(Carr) his Margaret Carr age 66 born Kentucky living with Josiah Thorpe and
Mary (Carr) his wife. They married in 1842. In another household was an
Alexander Carr age 39 and his family. In Platte Co. was Moses Karr age 52
with wife Sarah age 45 and Aaron age 17, all born Kentucky.
A. J. Morrow and Moses Carr appear as securities on estates dated Aug 1850
and Mar 1851.
There is a Samantha Carr who married Joseph Spencer May 27, 1851, both were
of Platte Co., Missouri, Book A, P220. There was also a younger Samantha
Carr in Missouri.
There is a marriage record of James Carr to Frances Rutledge Dec 1, 1849 in
Platte Co. On the 1850 census, there is a James Carr, 31, born Kentucky
and Frances A. Carr 16, born Kentucky. In 1860 Platte Co., MO James was 31
born KY and Frances A. was 16. I found other Carrs in Platte Co. Missouri
Frances A. Carr 16, born Kentucky. I found other Carrs in Platte Co.
Missouri in 1850. A Moses Carr in 1850 Platte Co., Missouri census,
Carroll Twp., age 52, born Kentucky with wife Sarah, age 45 born Kentucky
and a son Aaron 17 born Kentucky.
In 1880 Tarrant Co., Texas census there is a Jefferson Karr, 45 born
Virginia parents born Virginia) with wife Elizabeth 39, born Missouri and 4
children Indiana 13, James 11, Barthem (female) 9, Elizabeth 5. He was the
next family to Lewis Cass Morrow.
D. B. Carr, Deputy signed in a court case. Taken from a 1908 newspaper
from the Grapevine area of Tarrant Co., Texas.
It is unknown when or where she died but LDS sheets show MO for Missouri.
She probably died before 1860 when her husband was found with a wife named
Barbara on the census of McDonald Co., Missouri.

Thanks for the info. I will keep to see if it ties in with any other info.
With the names I have linked to at the present time it does not, but who
knows the history is similar in a way seems as though there was an uncle who
had to leave Miss. due to killing a man he found in the barn with his sister.
Seems as though this may not have been the first man she had been in the
barn with. Relatives of the man killed decided not to kill him if he left
the state. From what I hear, he slipped back there a few times. As some of
his children are still alive and do not know the history I cannot state his
or there names. Still this family was in the same county at the same time so
I will bet that they are related.
Alfred Joseph (A J) Carr was the son of John and Ann B Carr. A J Carr was
orphaned early in life. He married Narcissus Emeline Howell, daughter of Eli
and Nancy Love Howell (who are buried in the Bethel Cemetery in Delta,
Alabama), on 15 October 1835 in De Kalb County, Georgia. A J and Emeline
Carr had fourteen children.
In 1870, one of A J Carr's grandsons shot a man he recognized as a thug who
was slipping up to his still he figured to rob and kill him. A J Carr then
moved his family of then eleven children, including his three widowed
Spraberry daughters and their fourteen children, to Pontotoc County,
Mississippi for a few months, then on to Texas. They got to Texarkana the
same day as the railroad, moved through Tarrant and Coryell Counties, and
were living in Hamilton County in 1877 were we found: a personal note Lucy
made for $250; on 3 May, Georgia Ann Savannah remarried a widower, Phylander
Slay Tipton, who had two daughters, Elizabeth and Mary Francis; and Lucy Ann
Jane Sprayberry's two daughters, Nancy Love and Emeline Melissie, married
brothers, Pleasant Henry and Charles Hamilton Partin, in a double wedding on

I have just been to Pat's list and I want to say thank you so very much
to Pat for the kindness and time it takes to put such a list together.
Thank you!
As I was searching for my CARR/CORR ,I saw there were many Stephen
CARR's, and that some of them had listed Ireland. I would lke to hear
what area your Stephen came from, please.
I have 3 obituaries, one of Mary Ann CORR (nee MAHER) b;1853 Equinunk,PA
m;Stephen CORR (CARR in IRL.)
Michael H. CORR b;1854 Co. Galavey (Galway?) m;Alma Ellen- nee???
Stephen B. CORR B;1882 PA, d;1923 Blue Island,ILL.(ILL?)
I also have some info. re; CARR's in Ireland. A very happy, kind soul
did some look-ups for me (Griffiths) of CARR's in Co. Cork and Co.
Wicklow.
Thank you for any help,
Pati

The above links is to a record on VSLA web site for Hannah, wife of James
King Carr.
9 Jun 17[5]4 Married to Hannah Edmonston? by Rev Elias? Crawford? - 1263
Note: Hannah daughter of M....? (d 1806) and Rachel (d 1812) Edmonston?.
Can any one read this better than I can??? Date may be 1764. >>
Dennis --
Don't know if someone already replied. But my eyes read it as follows:
KERR, James III
Wife: Hannah
9 June 1754 married to Hannah Edmunston by Rev Edw Crawford - 1263
Note: Hannah dau of Moses (d 1806) and Rachel (d 1812) Edmunston
I was a bit troubled by the dash over the second syllable of "Edmunston" on
the last line, as if it was dotting an i. The first "Edmunston" doesn't seem
to have it, so I'm willing to allow that it is either dust or a stray
crossing of the t.

I deleted one of my reports on my Family Treemaker Online home page and that
seems to have caused all sorts of problems for folks. Sorry. Didn't realize
it would. You can always check out my home page itself --
<A

</A> and find whatever reports I have currently attached to my page -- and
write to me from there and let me know if I've deleted a favorite report! I
can maintain only a certain number of reports on that page, according to FTM
rules, so I have to make choices now and then.
Work and home have been taking most of my time in the past month, so I'm only
now catching up with my Carr/Kerr/Karr email. I'm around! :)
