I recently saw something on one of the message boards where someone had traced
the Carr genealogy back to "Kir" from the Bible. They said Kir is Hebrew for
Carr.
Does anyone have any information on this???
I am VERY interested in this aspect & would love to hear from someone on it.
Thanks.
Mannesah
I am still trying to find info on these people. They were my
GGGGGgrandparents. Does anyone have dates of birth, death, marriage, place
where they came from, parents, etc????
I received some info from David Kerr of the Kerr Association, but it didn't
really give me any info on Thomas & Miriam. I believe they had several
children, 2 of them were Benjamin who married Patience Beals(my direct line) &
Margaret (no info available).
HELP!!!!!
Thanks.

Hi Pat, I was looking over your FTM pages and found some of my ancestors.
James Carr listed on index page 81 born in 1844 in PA. also his son Joseph on
index page listed as Joseph R. Carr born 1872 and his son Raymond S. Carr
listed on index page 133 born in1894. This is a direct family line of mine ,
and I was wondering if they are connected to you . Any help would be great.
Thanks, Ellen J.

Sixth child's name Idia? Interesting name.
Tell me more about the geography of your family since 1874. When you say you
have no dobs, etc, are you talking about the eight children, too? What is the
earliest solid info you have on Carr line. Are you and your dad Carrs or
offshoots? Give me a rough guide back from yourself to your ggrandather, names
and years. I'll add it to my database, which I keep on line in Family

Hi, I dont know what to think of this inquiry, here is what I have on the
Karr-Carr line:
1870 Census Clark Co, Antoine Township, Ark. Census taken on Aug-21-1870
Head-Tolliver Carr, age 61, farmer, $2400, born in S.C., both parents in S.C.
wife- Sarah, age 43, born in Ga, both parents born in Ga.
son-James age 16, at school, born in Ga.
dau-Cordelia age 14, born in Ark.
son- Daniel age 10, born in Ark.
dau-Caldonia age 7, born in Ark.
1880 Census Clark Co, Greenville Township, Ark. Census taken June-8-1880
head- Tolivar Carr, age 67, born in S.C., both parents in S.C.
wife-Sarah age 56, born in Ga., both parents born in Ga.
son-Calvin age 10, born in Ark.
dau-Caldonia Hankins age 18, born in Ark.
son-in-law, Miles Hankins age 19, born in Ark.
The 1850 and 1860 census are not available at the library here.
I got the other names for the siblings from Tolivar Karr's will: The will was
dated Oct-12-1888 in Clark Co, Ark, and proved on Jan-21-1889 in Clark Co,
Ark.
KARR, Tolivar: Son Cicero KARR was named as exceutor. Heirs were son Martin S.
KARR, Daughter Canzada KARR, son Daniel KARR, daughter Caldonia Karr Hankins,
son Calvin Karr, and James KARR's Heirs. Witness to the will was, Isom P.
Langley, John V. Brown, and M. A. Harper. Note: John V. Brown and his wife
Nellie signed for their daughter Emily Ann Brown to married Tolivar's son
James, his son Cicero also married Nancy Catherine Brown, John's other
daughter.
Tolivar was also on the delinquent tax rolls for 1854 Clark Co, Ark., and in
1857 he homesteaded 80 acres in Clark Co, Ark. I haven't been able to verify
who Tolivar Karr's father was, and as you can see by the census both Tolivar
and Sarah gave conflictings ages from one census to the other, and the
marriage record was recorded in this way: Toarce CARR & Sary BATES on
Nov-4-1844 in Cherokee Co, Ga.
On the 1880 census for Cicero his last name was being spelled CARR:
1880 Census Clark Co, Greenville Township, Vol.2, sheet 18, line 30. Taken
June-8-1880.
Head- Cicero Carr, age 29, born in Ga.
wife- Nancy C. age, 25, born in Ark.
dau-Florence age 9, born in Ark.
son-Tolivar age 4, born in Ark.
son- John L. age 3, born in Ark. my line, middle name is Leander
dau- Lillian C. age 2 and half months, born in Clark Co, Ark.
I have a couple of more siblings for Cicero however they were provided by
another researcher, they are Abbey, David, Etta R. b. circa 1874 in Ark, and
Willis born circa 1878 in Ark. Cicero's son John Leander Carr married Belle
Zora Ballinger- they had a total of 11 children, 3 dying as infants, John and
Belle's son William Henry married Bonnie Deeds, my grandparents, William and
Bonnie's son Jimmy is my father. I know from Cicero on down through my line
they have used the CARR version of the spelling. I firmly believe that we have
a family connection here somewhere, could my Tolivar KARR'S first name
possibly be Cicero, if this is the case then he was married before his
marriage to Mary or { could Mary be an aka for Martha}? my Tolivar named his
1st born son Cicero so this is a strong indicator, and Cicero in turn named a
son Tolivar after his father. Cicero's son Tolivar is buried in Bassett Cem,
in Joiner, Miss. Co, Ark. Cicero's and Nancy marriage record was recorded this
way, Cesro KARR age 21, and Nancy Catherine Brown age 15, married
April-15-1869 in Clark Co, Ark. The daughter of John V. and Nellie Brown.
Information from an Uncle Arlie Carr stated that the Carr's had family in
Mississippi also, in fact after Leanders 1st wife Belle died he married a
Sally Ford, and she also had ties to Miss., Sally died after Leander did and
she moved back to Miss. Uncle Arlie mentioned the town of Gun Sight, Miss, or
Gun Town, does this ring a bell? It would seem by the naming pattern, the
states, any many other simularities, that there is a connection. Leander died
in 1944 in Searcy Co, Ark.

Hello, Clara. Here's some stuff. Let me know what you think.
Pat
1) Possible match on James and Emily Brown Carr, son Clarence:
Clarence Carr born Maysville, GA,Mar 3, 1886, moved to KY few years later.
Died in Baker,OR 1943.
Father: James Carr; Mother: surname Brown? Part Cherokee
Married to Cora Clifton, Marshall County KS
Laupe(a)aol.com 3/3/95 Carr, GA, 1850-1900
2) Seeking clarification of old posting
Who are Robert and Mary, of Arkansas, with sons Henry and Walter last known to
be living in Tulsa, OK, with daughter Ellen who reportedly died young? I
somehow have Robert and Mary as John Leander Carr's parents, with Henry,
Walter and Ellen as John's siblings. That's not right, right? Where have I
gone astray?
Summary of posting by CLuster499 @ aol.com 13 Feb 96
3) Remarks
a. Notice that Cicero and Nancy married underage, so Cicero told them he was
21 when he was really only 17. Makes more sense, then, Cicero marrying a 15
yr old girl.
b. The will seems to be the only place where the Karr spelling crops up.
c. James was born in Ga about 1854, but the taxes were overdue in Arkansas the
same year. Presume the family moved to Arkansas after James's birth circa
1854.
d. What is the basis for your matching John L Carr and John Leander Carr? The
documentation of Tolivar and Cicero is excellent. How is the documentation of
the John Leander info?
e. Maybe Tolivar and Sarah were bad at math?! Those ages are a nightmare!!
f. There is a C T Carr in the 1850 Federal Census, Georgia, Troup Co, District
800, pg 103
4) 1820 Federal Census, Georgia [and, in most cases, an 1824 index of some
sort]

Hi, Pat.
1] Here is what I have on James W. Karr age 25, and Emily A. Brown age 16,
both of Greenville Township, married April 15, 1869 in Clark Co, Ark, They
were married with handwritten permission from her father John V. and Nellie
Brown, it also listed Emily's exact date of birth also. From the 1880 Census
for Greenville Twp, Clark Co, Ark. Taken on June-8-1880. It listes Head- James
Carr, age 28, farm laborer, born in Ga., wife- Emily A. age 21, born in Ark,
which bears out 7 year difference and depending when their birthdates where it
could turn out to be only a 6 year difference, they had on the census 1 son,
Miles D. Carr age 2, born in Ark. and since there is no 1890 census, I dont
know how many children they had after Miles.
2] When I placed the add for Robert and Mary Carr with sons Henry, Walter, and
Ellen who died young I was relying on information on a great uncle that turned
out to be wrong and who has since died, since then I have gotten from the
Social Security Office which gave me Leander's first name and the information
he had put down on his original application for a social security number,
until then I only knew his name as Leander Carr, and it listed him as John
Leander Carr, and his mother as Belle Zora Ballinger, information from my
grandfathers William Henry Carr death certificate only listed his father as
Leander Carr and mother unknown, the Social Security gave
me a break, and then when I went to great Aunt Mary Lou Della Carr's funeral,
she married a McVay, and a Crook, it had in her bible that Leanders father and
mother where Roe and Nancy C. Carr, , it did not state where they were born
however, and that was all that was listed about them and it listed Leander as
bieng born in 1876, and according to the census he was born in 1877, and on
the 1880 Census for Greenville Township, Clark Co, Ark. there is:
Head- Carr, Cicero age 29, farm laborer, born in Ga,
wife- Nancy C. age 25, born in Ark
dau- Florence age 9, born in Ark
son- Toliver age 4, born in Ark.
son- John L. age 3, born in Ark.
dau- Lillian C. age 2 months, born in Ark.
I do believe that Roe was short for Cicero, and the name Nancy C. is a perfect
match, and the date of circa 1876 for Roe from the bible is a very close
match, the census records put him as being born circa 1877. Also Leander named
his first daughter Nancy, after his mother, or at least that what Great Aunt
Bertha Carr says, she is still alive, but her memory is very very poor now,
any way Leander did name his first daughter Nancy C.. Hope this clears up the
confusion, since then I have learned a lot more, and also I learned to pick at
the information from the older family members. And I got Cicero's name from
Tolivar Karr's will. I have found marriage records, wills, census, and family
bibles as well have used the spelling of Carr and Karr, I know from Leanders
line on down they used the Carr spelling.. I also got more information on
Florence Elizabeth Karr, Cicero's daughter, she married David H. Hammonds, and
their children, if you would like thier information let me know, I took their
information from the Clark Co, Ark. Past & Present book. Talk to you later.

I have records from World Family Tree showing a Robert Scales Sneed, born 20
Mar 1835 in Davidson Co, TN, married 12 Dec 1860 (Vineland Community, TX
[Collin Co] to Malinda Jane Kerr b 17 Apr 1840 near Culleoka, TN (Maury Co).
Robert Scales Sneed and wife Malinda had child William Bush Sneed on 23 Feb
1875 in Collin Co, TX. William died in Nashville, TN in 1944. Interesting
parallels, if not the same line.

I have a SOPHIA CARR in my family tree that married JAMES PIXLEY in Adams
Co.,
Ohio, June 4, 1818. James was the oldest son of Elijah PIXLEY, the
Revolutionary War Soldier. James had 6 brothers and sisters, and most of
them
remained in the Adams and Shelby Co., Ohio area. Some of them lived in
Indiana for a short time.
This is ALL I know about James PIXLEY and Sophia CARR. Maybe someone reading
this has CARR'S in that area, or have one of these PIXLEY's in their family
tree. If you do, they are MY PIXLEY's.
>>
Sophia could be identical with daughter of Eli and Rebecca (Crofoot) Carr. Eli
was born in Stephentown, NY and reportedly died in Michigan. Eli had nine
children.

Dear Mrs Noble,
I have just visited your Home Page and found that you have ancestors from
Durham, England. I live in County Durham and have many ancestors from this
area, one of which is called Cuthbert Ellison, I noticed that you had a
Cuthbert Ellison Carr, do you have Ellison ancestry in this area, or is it
just in America? Would love to hear from you.
Yours Truly, Tracy Bowman >>
Dear Tracy,
I collate Carr family data from various sources and post it on the Internet as
an aid for researchers. My personal Carr family traces back in the US to
colonial days, when my ancestors came to Massachusetts from England in the
early 17th century.
I have the following correspondence regarding Cuthbert Ellison Carr. I'm sure
you could write to that person for further information.

From: doherty(a)german.hu-berlin.de (Paul David Doherty)
To: CARR-L(a)rootsweb.com
Hello,
I'm new to this list, so please be gentle if this topic has already
been discussed. I found a mention of the following family genealogy:
Col. Ralph Edward Carr and Cuthbert Ellison Carr: The History of the
Family of Carr of Dunstan Hill (etc.). 3 vols, London 1893/94/99.
This seems to be the only extensive genealogy of the Northern English
lines of the CARR family. Since it was only printed in 100 copies,
it is probably very hard to find on the antiquarian market. Some
large libraries sure have it (LoC, British Library, ...), but I
don't think I can get it from there via interlibrary loan.
Hence the question: Does anyone have this genealogy, or a photocopy?
I would be especially interested in vol. 1 which deals with the
Carrs from Hexham (Northumberland) since this is probably my line.
Thanks in advance,
-- Dave

I was actually surprised that it hasn't been reprinted yet (I've
checked Higginson Books, expecting it to be available). The book
sure sounds like a valuable resource.

No idea, sorry. Do you have any Carr ancestors in the Hexham area?

Ellen Boucher Carr was the daughter of Jonathan Boucher Carr and Barbara Ann
Carr. My most prominent questions are where and when did Ellen die? I
suspect Tulare County, California in 1892. And how and when did Benjamin F.
Todd. I am sure he died sometime in 1862 as a result of a disagreement with
some Union soldiers, scouts, or bushwackers. Although I have general answers
to these questions I am looking for more specific answers.
So, thats my Carr connection. If you can help with my questions I will be
most grateful.
