Dear Pat,
I have been subscribed to the CARR list for quite a while and I was wondering
if you can tell me whether you have much information relating to CARR
families from England. I have CARRs in two of my family lines, one from
Yorkshire, England and the other from Upton-upon-Severn, Worcs, England.
Can you give me any advice as to where I might look on the net to find
information that may help me to track down my CARR families.
I really appreciate any advice that you can give me,
Sharon.
>>
I have a growing body of data on Carrs from England and Australia in my
database, but it dwarfs the US material. Over time the situation should
improve, given the international nature of the Internet. I don't have
specific suggestions on sources of English Carr information, but I am sure
some of the folks in the group have some ideas. I can give you the following
postings on the general subject of English Carrs.

How far back do you have the CARRS of Newcastle-on-TYNE traced? I have access
to old Wills, DEEDS, and Pedigrees of that area (Yorkshire, Durham, and
Northumberland co's.) and have seen CARRs listed in Newcastle, but in the
1500's!! If you or anyone else needs a lookup, let me know. The books are by

Hello,
I'm new to this list, so please be gentle if this topic has already
been discussed. I found a mention of the following family genealogy:
Col. Ralph Edward Carr and Cuthbert Ellison Carr: The History of the
Family of Carr of Dunstan Hill (etc.). 3 vols, London 1893/94/99.
This seems to be the only extensive genealogy of the Northern English
lines of the CARR family. Since it was only printed in 100 copies,
it is probably very hard to find on the antiquarian market. Some
large libraries sure have it (LoC, British Library, ...), but I
don't think I can get it from there via interlibrary loan.
Hence the question: Does anyone have this genealogy, or a photocopy?
I would be especially interested in vol. 1 which deals with the
Carrs from Hexham (Northumberland) since this is probably my line.
Thanks in advance,
-- Dave

Pat, I was researching information on my great great great grandparents
William Carr and Hester Spain. All I know is that they were married
October 6, 1845 in Davis County, IA. I was led to your index through
the internet family finder. Do you have any more information about this
couple? I would love to hear from you. Are we related or are these
Carrs just some of the ones that you have researched.?

Hi, Patrick!
I am looking for info on my g-g-grandfather, William Carr. I am told he was
born in Kentucky about 1800, give or take. He married Martha Green May 14,
1826 in Orange/Clark Co., Ind. His son, Jonathan Green Carr b. Mar 16, 1829

You've really got me going on this now, but I can't find K. DeSanno! Any
othe clues from your correspondence with her? Obviously we are
descended from the same J.G. Carr and Sarah King. I have a photo of
them that she would probably like to have.
Thanks for giving me some direction in looking for the parents of
William Carr. I'll start checking out those names.

Hi, Pat!
I haven't written to you in a long while but I last communicated with
you while looking for info on William CARR, father of Jonathan Green
CARR b. 1829 in Morgan Co., IN to William CARR and Martha GREEN who
married May 14, 1826 in Clark Co., IN.
I have new info that I would like to share with you and see if this
jibes with yours. Obviously we have some link through the CARRs but I
haven't spent the time to figure out what it is. If you know, please
tell me and save me the agony! <grin>

was born in 1867) on March 16, 1876 and is buried in the Utterback

I believe that William CARR was the son of Jonathan J. CARR who died in
Davis Co., IA in 1847. His will mentions these names: Austin CARR,
James CARR, John CARR, William CARR, Margaret CARR, Sarah Gillespy,
Rachel McKINNEY, Polly BUTTS, Patsy HUFFMAN.
Please let me know if you can confirm William's parentage and if my info

Hi, Pat!
I e-mailed you a week or so ago asking for info on Jonathan Green Carr b. 1829
in Morgan Co., IN, son of William Carr and Martha Green/Greene.
I have since learned that William was the son of Jonathan J. Carr. Siblings of
William are: Austin, James, John, Martha, Polly, Rachel, Sarah Ann and
Margaret. William and Martha were married on May 14, 1826 in Clark Co., IN.
Martha died in Morgan Co. in 1839. William and family then moved to Davis
Co., Iowa. His father, Jonathan J. Carr, died there in 1847, and his son,
Jonathan Green Carr married Sarah Elizabeth King in 1850.
If any of this shows up in your database and you are willing to share info I'd
love to hear from you! Thanks!

NEWS AND NOTES FROM ROOTSWEB
FASTER PAGES AT ROOTSWEB. As some folks may have noticed, access
to <http://www.rootsweb.com> has been slower in recent weeks than
it has been in the past. The reason is that so many genealogists
are simultaneously using it that we are very nearly exceeding the
amount of bandwidth we have available for transmitting Web pages
through the Internet.
To remedy that problem, RootsWeb has just signed a contract with
Concentric.NET to obtain direct access to the Internet's
backbone, and we will be moving the main Web server sometime
within the next week. There will be about a four-hour downtime as
we move the server.
The great news is that this should allow us to serve pages as
fast as the very best commercial sites on the Internet; the bad
news is that this contract adds another $4,000 per month in
expenses to our already extremely tight budget.

Dear Pat,
I've been looking over your FTM User Homepage. I found it doing a search for
Jesse Kerr whose whife was Sarah Miller. You had Jesse on your large report,
but I could not find him in the smaller report.
I am a descendant of Jesse through his son, Maclin Kerr, husband of Lucinda
Davis. Their daughter was Julia A. Kerr who married Jerry Monroe Patterson.
Julia and Jerry were my gg-grandparents. They lived the last part of their
lives in Macon County, North Carolina, and are buried there at the Snow Hill
Methodist Church Cemetery.
If you have info on Jesse Kerr and any of his descendants, I would love to
swap information with you.
Many kind regards,

Dear Pat,
My wife's 3rd great grandparents are Jesse Kerr, b. 12/25/1789 in Greene
County, North Carolina (now Tennessee) and Sarah Miller, b. ABT 1785 in
Virginia. We have considerable information about their descendants, but
have been unable to find their parents or other ancestors. I find that you
list both of them in your User Home Page Report: Carr Index. (Jesse Kerr,
b. December 25, 1789, North Carolina, Sarah Miller, b. ABT 1790). I noted
that you said that all people in the index are not related to you, but I
will ask anyway. Are they related to you, and if so, who are their
ancestors?
I hope to hear from you, thanks.

Hi Pat, I am researching Jesse Kerr, born 25 Dec 1789 in Greene County
(NC) and later lived in Greenback, Blount County, TN. He married 1st
Sarah Miller, 2nd Phoebe Hayes Key. Do you have this person directly in
your lineage or is it someone else's lineage? Is your information from
your own research or someone else's files? What kind of information do
you have on Jesse Kerr? Do you have his parent's names and places of
birth, etc.?
My husband is the 4th grt grandson of "Old Jesse Kerr". Thanks for your
help in advance. Kathy

The British Vital Records Index on CDs, recently released by the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, contains nearly five
million names and some of the records date back to 1538.
These new CDs contain individuals' names from parish registers,
civil registration and other record collections in England,
Wales, Scotland and Ireland. There are five CDs in the British
Vital Records Index -- four of which are birth and christening
records and the other is marriage records. The amount of
accessible data varies greatly from parish to parish. This set of
vital records is part of an ongoing project which will be updated
periodically, according to the public affairs department of the
church.
"These new CDs may save families hundreds of hours of time and
painstaking research," said Elder D. Todd Christofferson,
executive director of the church's Family History Department. In
a recent press release, Christofferson notes that the church is
aggressively working toward developing other products that will
simplify genealogical research, making it faster and easier to
access needed information and trace family histories.
"Nearly half of American families can trace part of their lineage
to the British Isles," Christofferson said. "Our repository of
records is the most comprehensive source available to help these
families trace their roots, not just to ancestors who arrived in
America, but to their forebears in 16th-century England."
The British Isles Vital Records Index contains the highest number
of records (100+ per county where records were collected) from
the English localities of Sussex, Kent, Herefordshire,
Lincolnshire and Derbyshire. Next in representation (50+) are:
Yorkshire, Lancashire, Nottinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Wiltshire
and Dorest; followed by (25+) for Hampshire, Gloucestershire,
Staffordshire and Northunberland. Keep in mind that not all vital
records for any particular locality are included. This giant
index was put together from the work of thousands of volunteers
who examined microfilmed records and extracted information such
as names, dates, places and family relationships.
The set includes the Family History Resource File Viewer, which
takes about five minutes to install. You can search by surname or
surname and given name. Additionally, searches can be modified to
specific time periods of a five-year range and to certain
localities. Moreover, you can further limit your search by
including names of father, mother and/or spouse. Unless you check
the box to search for an exact spelling, searches will provide
you variant spellings -- a most helpful feature.
After searching for a particular individual or for, say, all of
the Peacocks (one of my English lines) in a particular locality,
you can print out the data or save it in RTF (rich text format)
or GEDCOM (PAF 3.0 format). A search provides the Family History
Library's film number where the information was found along with
where it was recorded, such as "Saint Michaels, Bishops
Stortford, Hertford, England."

4.0+, 8 MB RAM minimum, 16 MB recommended, CD-ROM drive (4X

Hi, everyone...
I've been looking for my ancestor John Henry Carr, b.c. 1834, immigrated to
the Boston area, for some time now. I finally found where he and his wife
Teresa (Daly) Carr are buried (info from Teresa's death record). Today, my
husband, my three year old son and I drove up to Holy Cross Cemetery in
Malden, MA - in the rain - to find the grave (I had called the office to get
the exact location of the grave), only to find it unmarked!! I'm sooooo
frustrated. The day wasn't a total loss, however. I did record the
following CARR/KERR graves:
- ----------------------------
Charles P. Morris
d. June 23, 1909, age 78
and his sisters
Catherine KERR
Oct. 22, 1830 - Aug. 22, 1893
and
Mary E. Morris
Nov. 3, 1838 - September 24, 1896
--------------------------------------
CARR
1881 Joseph L. 1961
1888 Juliet M. 1978
---------------------------------------
CARR (all on one stone)
Lucy I. Carr, d. Sept. 15, 1929
John B. Carr, d. Nov. 5, 1934
Catherine B. Carr, d. Mar. 17, 1936
Emily M. Carr, d. Jan. 8, 1954
William F. Carr, d. Nov. 3, 1960
Elizabeth L. Carr, d. Aug. 29, 1981
---------------------------------------
and ...
There's a Joseph A. CARR funeral home in Everett, MA.
Hope this helps someone (and I hope I have everyone's sympathy - sob!)
