Re: Carr/Watson

Hi Judy,
I do not have the records with me currently but I can tell you
that the father of Frances Xavier Chadwick was David Hogue Chadwick of
Morgantown, WV who died in (I believe) 1902 while visiting Chicago to see
Frances and her family. The best known memebr of his family was his
brother's son Rear Admiral French Ensor Chadwick,USN who after the
seccession of WV from VA became one of the first new West Virginians to
enter the naval Academy later service included: London at the embassy,
director of naval intelligence, command of the flagship in Santiago de
Cuba druing the Spanish-American War, presdient of the Naval War College
and author of several histories. The mother of Frances was (I believe)
Anne Muser Derring of Morgantown the daughter of henry Derring.
Besides my great-grandfather's mother (Elizabeth Helen Carr)
another Chicgo Carr in the family was her cousin Brig. Gen. Cadmus Camilo
Casatti Carr whose father (a doctor) had brought the family here in 1843
from Fredericksburg,VA. He, like the admiral, was active in the
Spanish-American War after which he served as military governor of western
Puerto Rico.
