Celebrities' Picks of Missed Movies They'll Watch New Year's Eve With Millions
Who Do the Same Happy New Year, Pass the Remote!
DALLAS, Dec. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- It's that time again when people mark the
beginning of the year with that age-old tradition -- New Year's resolutions.
And according to Blockbuster(R), the video rental giant, one of the most
popular resolutions -- right up there with exercising and losing weight -- is
catching up on missed movies.
"Because New Year's Eve day is the company's busiest day of the entire
year, we know that videos are playing an increasing role in New Year's
entertainment," says Allen Klose, vice president of market research for
Blockbuster. "But we also believe people are resolved to catch up on the
movies they have missed. And what better way to do that than with a stack of
videos from Blockbuster?"
To prove its point, Blockbuster asked numerous celebrities to share their
movie resolutions for 1998.
. . .
Allan Carr, producer of "Grease" and Broadway's "La Cage aux Folles,"
resolves to see his favorites -- again -- "A Place in the Sun," "The Third
Man" by Orson Welles and Joseph Mankiewicz's "All About Eve." Carr adds, "In
my opinion, 'All About Eve' is the best film ever made about backstage life."

Dear Carr Researchers,
I am a recent subscriber to the mailing list. My gr gr gr grandfather,
I have recently learned, was CHRISTIAN FREDERICK KERR, b.1742 in
Bavaria, who came to South Carolina and died in Colleton County on 30
Jul 1814. Descendants moved on to Mississippi; his daughter, Mary
Virginia KARR/CARR, married John Walter COLLIER in SC and later settled
in Pelahatchie (Rankin Co) MS. Their daughter, Rachel Ann COLLIER, was
my great grandmother.
According to the Rankin County Historical Society's A HISTORY OF RANKIN
COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, v.2 (p.301), a book was published titled: CHRISTIAN
FREDERICK KERR; HIS DESCENDANTS AND KIN, compiled by Elaine Ford Eaton
and Loraine Carr Bruner (Baton Rouge, 1981, 247p). I would very much
like to obtain a copy of this publication and also exchange information
with anyone of this line.

Christian is likely identical with Christian Carr, born after 1727, who
married Hannah Miller. He was son of Hans Jacob (1679) and Crito Greta Karr.
He was brother of Gerig Hendrick Carr. This is a German line. They changed
their name from Karr to Carr and were located in the southeast US.
Below is some correspondence from people researching a line of this Karr
family. Maybe some of the folks mentioned could give you some leads.
Pat
[Brderbund WFT Vol. 1, Ed. 1, Tree #0856, Date of Import: Apr 6, 1997]
Heinrich Henry (Roebuck) Carr is the first ancestor of our Carr line to
emigrate to this country. This information has been researched independently
by at least three different individuals. He was born in Germany of parents
with a family name of Karr. The exact location in Germany is not totally clear
but Schwaigern is one possibility. They entered this country at Philadelphia,
Pa. September 11, 1731 aboard the ship Pennsylvanian Messanger Captain
thought to be Jno Stedman. On the ship with him were brothers Christian and
Gerich Hendrich, Probably Mother and Father also. It is not clear why they
changed their name to Carr from Gehr and is not clear where they went from
Philly. Henry showed up in Augusta County Va. in 1750 and Christian was
married in1768 in Montgomery County Pa. Roebuck was apparently a family
nickname for Henry. Augusta Co.Va. is next to Hardy Co. West Va .where all of
Henrys' sons appear to have been born.

Pat -
I copied off a message you had sent re: CARR/KERR because of the similarity of
info to what I have come across. I thought I'd toss my notes out to you and
see what you have to say about them. I see your name often on the message
board & know you are seriously doing the Carr's. I've been tracing the Carr
line for the last 25 years, being able to do more some years than others! My
line is down through Jacob & Mary (Harper) Carr of VA.
A few years ago I received the following through various correspondence:
From Strassberger & Hinke pp 43-44: Pennsylvania Merchant, John Stedman,
Commander. Out of Rotterdam - arrived Philadelphia Sept. 10, 1731. Women
over 16: Creeto Kar, Catherina Kar. Children under 16: Heinrich Kar,
Christian Kar, Gerich Heinrich Kar.
Another source used these spellings: Creto, Catherina, Heinrich, Gerig
Hendrick, Christian Gehr.
Another source: Henry Roebuck Carr born Georg Heirich Karr 25 Sept. 1721,
Schwaigern, Neckerkreis, Wurttemburg, Germany; arrived Sept 1731 Philadelphia,
PA on the Pennsylvania Merchant; married Sara Peterson; 9 sons all born
Petersburg, Augusta Co., VA.
I agree that name spellings were often changed according to how the name was
heard and the ability of the record maker to spell or understand the foreign
pronunciations.
Are you a Carr yourself? My maiden name was Carr. I'm from the Ohio branch.
You seem to have all the info in the world on the Carr's, but if there's a
chance I might be able to share something new with you, it would be my
pleasure to do so.

Kerry,
The following information is from the Kerr Family Association (KFA) database,
and is provided in response to your listing on the CARR server.
Key: The numerals "217" and "2009" refer to the KFA line numbers as found in
the database. If you wish to add to or correct any information, then please
cite these numbers. The Roman numerals indicate the generation number since
emigration to America. The spouse or children are listed at the end of the
line. All text lines begin with either 217 or 2009, but in some cases the
limitations of word processing forces a text line to "word wrap" to the next
text line. Double commas indicate missing data.
Note that some spellings are not as you had them. This is often a result of
errors, but also often reflects the fact that spelling was not a well defined
art until the mid-19th century. The spellings tended to be according to the
phonetic understanding of the nearest literate person.

I am sending this to the Carr List, in case someone else might recognize
any of these people. One never knows.
Yes, I can just barely reach your line! Elizabeth to Benjamin to Conrad
to Joseph to Henry! Sound familiar? I didn't have any more on
Elizabeth than born 1841 in St Clair County Illinois, but we do have at
least Henry in Common!
My Carr lines are quite complex. I decend from our dear Henry by no
less than 5 ways. I have lines in the area that might find him yet
again, who knows?
1. My father, Everett Jordan to Glen Jordan to Fleet Jordan to Adonijah
Jordan to William Jordan, who married Elizabeth Carr, daughter of Eli
Carr and Martha (Patty) White (Quite a story there, I am told) Eli was
the son of John Carr Sr, who was the son of Henry Sr.
2. My Father Everett Jordan to Glen Jordan to Mary Marcella Waybright
to David Huffman (another story) to his mother Mary Bonner, whose mother
was Jemima Carr, daughter of John Carr Sr., who was the son of Henry Sr.
3. My father Everett Jordan to his mother Florna Carr, to Fisher
(Isaac) son of Sylvenus Carr, son of Abner Carr, who was the son of
John Carr Sr. who was the son of Henry Sr.
4. My father Everett Jordan to his mother Florna, to Fisher to his
mother Jane Bonner, daugher of Ann Bonner (and Job Parsons--another
story, but real similar) who was the daughter of Jemima Carr and William
Boner. Jemima was, again, the daughter of John Carr Sr., who was the
son of Henry.
5. My father to his mother Florna to (Fisher Carr's wife) Alice Carr,
who was the daughter of James B. Carr who was the son of Solomon Carr,
who was the son of John Carr Sr, who was ....well, the son of Henry.
Over the years, I too, have collected quite a database of Carr names.
I have tried to enter whatever I find...because in WV they are such
tangled lines that they are very hard to figure sometimes. Obviously
the real interest between us is where Henry came from...So...What do
you have on dear old Henry?

I don't know why your May 31 posting took so long to show up, but I've been
watching all summer for information on Roebuck Carr and it looks like you've
had it all along. (I knew I should have E-Mailed you earlier.)
As I said, I've been looking for information on a Roebuck Carr and his
ancesters. I have a copy of a Carr Family Tree done in the '20's that lists
his decendents an wanted to know more. Is there a way for me to get more
information? What you posted was very intreging.
Just to be sure. My Roebuck Carr lived on the south bank of the Potomac in
Virgina. And about 1800 his family of Coonrad, Martin (married to Elizabeth
Davis) and Solomon moved to Ohio. Coonrad and Solomon died in Ohio. Martin
(who is my ancester) moved onto Indiana where he died. -- An earlier post
showed Martin as Martin Luther. My tree doesn't state that but my Martin's
grandson (my G Grandfather is a Martin Luther.
Thank You for any help you give.

I am descendant of WI Carr's. They came to WI from around Rochester, IN in
1860 or so. My grandfather was Erwin L. Carr, his father, Clayton Carr,
Clayton's father was Reuben Carr, Reuben's father Jehu Carr, Jehu's father
Jacob Carr, Jacob's father Henry (Heinrich) "Roebuck" Carr - the first Carr
(or Gehr) to come to this country from Germany. Henry was only 11 or so and
he came with his father (so his father would be the 1st I guess) and his
step-mother and his 2 half brothers - they landed in Philadelphia. Is there a
connection with your WI Carr's? Let me know!!

Dow Chemical and Flextronics Form Integrated Passive Company; Technology to
Reduce Size, Weight and Complexity of Electronic Products
SAN JOSE, Calif., Dec. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE:
DOW) and Flextronics International Ltd. (Nasdaq: FLEXF) announced they have
formed a new company to produce thin-film integrated passive components. Dow
holds a majority interest in the company, Intarsia Corporation, which is now
in operation as an independent entity located in San Jose, California.
Joe Carr, business director for Dow's Advanced Electronics Materials Group
and architect of Dow's participation in Intarsia, explained that "There is a
growing need for passive integration. By combining our technologies and
commercial capabilities, Dow and Flextronics have some unique qualifications
for addressing that need. The market opportunity is significant enough that
we felt a separate company should be formed to pursue it." . . .
Harry Van Wickle, a 25-year veteran of electronic components
manufacturing, has been named Intarsia's CEO. Van Wickle has established and
managed major operations for Texas Instruments, Fairchild Semiconductor, AT&T,
Cypress Semiconductor and Micropolis. Said Joe Carr of Dow, "Harry's wealth
of experience in the start-up and management of large-scale, low-cost
manufacturing operations is perfectly suited to executing Intarsia's strategy
of making integrated passives a mainstream product."
Dow holds a majority interest in Intarsia. The Dow Chemical Company is
the fifth largest chemical company in the world, with annual sales of more
than $20 billion. Dow manufactures and supplies chemicals, plastics,
agricultural products, consumer goods and environmental services in more than
2,400 product families for customers in 157 countries around the world. Dow's
efforts in Advanced Electronic Materials include products for integrated
circuit interlayer dielectrics, advanced ceramics, and disk drive materials.
The company employs approximately 40,300 people worldwide.
Flextronics International Ltd. is a global electronic manufacturing
services provider of a full spectrum of value-added services. Its OEM
customers include leaders in fast-growth communications, computers, medical
and consumer markets where innovation, time-to-market, product miniaturization
and cost reduction are paramount. The company has facilities in North
America, Asia and Europe.

Does anyone out there have a Carr/Goodloe marriage in their line, either in
VA or KY? I have an Agnes Carr Goodloe, daughter of Thomas Goodloe and
Dorothy Waller. Agnes married John Estes Yates. This would be in early
1800s.
If any of these names ring a bell, please let me know.

Your help will be gratefully received.
