I am helping my good friend Corretta in her search. We are stumped with Cora
Melissa Carr. We know from Coretta's Grandmother (who knew her personally )
the following. b.1870, d. 1944. She married at 13 years of age in 1883 to
William Brasuell in Sebastian County Arkansas they had 11 Children whom we
have information on.
Cora Melissa's story is that when her mother died, her father took her and 2
siblings (who we think were born in Ohio) across country, leaving them with
prominent people who would educate them in exchange for domestic service.
Cora was left with Judge Parker around 1882 in Fort Smith Ark. When she
became pregnant (by the Judge) Parker's wife kicked her out.
13 years old, alone and destitute on the streets she met William Brasuell who
had came to town searching for a bride. William married Cora knowing she was
already with child. They had 10 more children.
I've seen your postings through out the Carr genealogy area and hoped that
you may have Cora or a lead somewhere in your notes. Any hint of a lead is
sincerely appreciated. Please e-mail me at your convenience. Thank You,

The following article, "Civil War soldiers on computer list" appeared in
the Sunday, August 1, 1993, edition of "The News Herald", Panama City,
FL.....byline: Connie Cass, Associated Press.
Quote -
WASHINGTON - The first name - Confederate soldier Edwin F. Jemison,
killed at age 18 - was punched into a computer Wednesday to launch a
database of the estimated 3.5 million Americans who fought in the Civil
War.
By early 1996, people who believe their ancestors found for the blue
or the gray should be able to look up their names in the Civil War
Soldiers System. Computers at the National Park Service's 28 Civil War
sites will be available to access the system.
"It's been estimated that up to 100 million people may be descendants
from Civil War soldiers," said John F. Peterson, project manager for the
Civil War Soldiers System.
With the database, those people will be able to learn the regiment and
battles their ancesters fought in, Peterson said, giving them "a
personal connection to a great, historical event."
The original handwritten records, on index cards, are stored at the
National Archives, which receives nearly 1,500 inquires each week
relating to Civil War records.
Hundreds of genealogists, history buffs, and others have volunteered
to use their home computers to type the names onto computer diskettes -
donating work that park service officials estimate is worth $4.5
million.
Jemison, a Louisiana soldier who died at Malvern Hill, Va., in 1862,
was chosen to begin the database because his photograph is so familiar.
The image of his boyish face, staring seriously into the camera from
beneath a Confederate cap, has frequently appeared in books and
documentaries.
Parks Service Director Roger Kennedy typed Jemison's entry during a
press conference at Ford's Theater, sight of the assassination of
Abraham Lincoln.
The Civil War Soldiers System marks a transition from "an obsession
with heroes" to "a new kind of history in which the common people who
built the place have their role," Kennedy said.
The Civil War Trust, a non-profit historical association, is raising
money to pay for computer terminals in the parks.
The National Archives, the Federation of Genealogical Societies and
the Genealogical Society of Utah, a corporation of the Morman Church,
also are guiding the project.

Chattanooga, Tenn., to Atlanta.
Today you can travel the same distance in a little more than an hour on
Interstate 75, over land that was contested by inches, with massive
bloodshed, nearly 130 years ago in one of the pivotal campaigns of the
Civil War.
Along the way you can see:
A Taco Bell and a McDonald's at the entrance to Chickamauga Battlefield
Park, along with a "Battlefield Bike Shop, a "Battlefield Tire and
Muffler" shop, a U-Haul dealership and a golf driving range.
The broken stump of a highway historical marker beside Highway 41 at
Ringgold where the battle of Rocky Face Ridge was fought. Vandals have
wrenched the heavy metal sign off its post and lugged it away as a
souvenir.
So - you seekers who live near one of the National Park Service's 28
Civil War sites - or those of you who visit one - are in luck.

Ray H Carr, born about 1924, millionaire from Pennsylvania, owns two Holiday

Subj: Vintage Cars Halfway Through Iran

From: AOL News

By AFSHIN VALINEJAD
ISFAHAN, Iran (AP) - After surviving the heat, dust and potholes of
South Asia, 75 vintage cars rumbled along smoother roads across Iran on
Monday in the second Beijing-to-Paris car rally.
After a rest stop Saturday in Isfahan in central Iran, the drivers hit
the road again Sunday, cheered by hundreds of Iranians lining the streets on
a fine 72-degree day.
``The roads here in Iran are wonderful, and the people are great,''
said Ray H. Carr, a hardy American millionaire who at 73 predates his vintage
auto, a gleaming green 1939 Ford Deluxe.
The drivers plan to cross into Erzurum in Turkey on Tuesday and drive
through Greece, Italy, Switzerland and Germany before reaching Paris.
The rally is unusual not only for the age of its cars, but also because
Iran has opened its borders to such an event for the first time, allowing
scores of foreigners from 22 countries, including several Americans, to drive
through.
Carr, who owns two Holiday Inn hotels in Pennsylvania, said he wants to
remember every bit of his adventure and has hired two cameramen to document
every moment on video.
The 45-day rally covering 10,000 miles in 11 countries - the longest
ever for classic and vintage cars - began in Beijing on Sept. 6.
It commemorates the first transcontinental rally from Beijing to Paris
in 1907 and is scheduled to end in Paris on Oct. 18.
``We've seen some extraordinary things on the way, but also some of the
worst roads. They were just awful in Tibet and Nepal, full of rocks,'' said
Rosie Thomas, the British driver of a 1968 white
Volvo Amazon.
A total of 99 cars started from Beijing. Some broke down and had to be
shipped back. Others dropped out but may rejoin the rally farther down the
route.
Two participants did not survive.
German Josef Feit and his son, Rene, were killed when their 1967
Volkswagen Cabriolet collided with a passenger bus in western Pakistan last
Monday. At 17, Rene was the youngest participant.
Don Saunders, a native of Bainbridge Island, Wash., who is driving a
cream-colored 1932 Packard 903 emblazoned with the American flag, said he
felt welcome in Iran.
``People have been very nice to us. I haven't felt at all unwelcome as
an American,'' said Saunders.
All the cars in the rally are more than 25 years old, and some are
priceless, including Etienne S.L. Veen's 1927 Mercedes Benz 630K. It was in a

So how could a real car lover bear to put a classic like the 630K on
some of the roughest roads in the world?
``I decided to take it just for the rally because I believe cars are
made to be driven,'' said Veen, of Holland.
Easy for him to say. He owns 10 more classics.

Hello all rooters,
Just a note to let you know I appreciate shared info and free voluntary
look-ups that everyone offers, so I decided to return the favor to anyone who
would like what info I have. I have purchased the books which list all
cemetaries and everyone who is buried in them, including the dates and
inscriptions on the tombstones to the following counties/areas:
Sevierville/Seiver, Blount/Maryville, and Union Co. all in the state of
Tennessee. If you are interested in listings of either of these books, I
will be glad to look it up and e-mail you directly. You can reach me at
Tgpandora(a)aol.com. If you do not hear back from me in a couple of days, try
to e-mail me again unless I have an over-whelming response, in which case I
will post a note to let you know that it is taking a little more time.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Shaun King threw three touchdown passes to JaJuan

defeating Army 41-0 Saturday afternoon.
Tulane (2-2) scored its most points since a 43-7 victory over Southern

loss to Air Force in 1991.
King completed 15-of-26 for 277 yards and Dawson caught four passes for
130.
Army rushed for 131 yards, 258 less than its average. Tulane rushed for
247 yards, including 110 by Toney Converse, and passed for 308.
Jamaican Dartez scored on a 2-yard run on his first carry of the season
to give Tulane a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. He missed the first three
games due to a broken left forearm.
Brad Palazzo's 20-yard field goal on the Green Wave's next possession
increased the lead to 10-0.

Subj: Paper: Military's Health Care Weak
Date: 97-10-04 12:54:12 EDT

.c The Associated Press
DAYTON, Ohio (AP) - The U.S. military's health care system is a magnet
for problem doctors, employing physicians who failed multiple state medical
board exams, had their licenses revoked or
suspended, lost their malpractice insurance or were convicted of crimes, the
Dayton Daily News reported. . . .
The Daily News reviewed thousands of previously unreleased government
records, interviewed more than 200 people in 12 states and analyzed more than
a dozen computer databases, some obtained
only after a federal judge ordered the military to release them.
The newspaper's yearlong examination, published in Sunday's editions,
found:
Doctors in the military health care system do not have the restrictions
and liabilities of civilian doctors. Military doctors are not required to
have malpractice insurance, they do not have to be licensed in every state
where they practice and they are virtually immune from being sued by their
patients.
The military does not routinely warn the public of doctors whose
mistakes cause injuries or death. More than 75 military medical centers never
reported a doctor for medical malpractice to a database created by Congress
in 1990 to protect the public from problem doctors. There were more than
1,000 claims of malpractice at those centers, several involving deaths.
At least 200 doctors practiced in the military with records of
incompetence or malpractice from both in and out of the military. In
addition, 77 doctors either failed their state licensing exam or had no
evidence in their files that they took it. One failed 30 times. . . .
Because doctors in the service are frequently transferred, the military
allows its physicians to hold a license from any state regardless of where
they are stationed. With doctors often far from where they were licensed,
state medical boards depend on the military for information But the military
is sometimes reluctant to criticize its doctors, the newspaper said.
``It is a good opportunity for physicians with problems to hide out,''
said Dennis Carr, who retired a few months ago as assistant director and
chief of compliance for the Iowa Board of Medical Examiners. ``If they're a
long way away, there's no way to keep track of them.'' . . .
