Hi Everyone,
Can anybody help me trace my CARR family tree back to Ireland and forward to
the USA?
So far I have Owen CARR (b. 1843-1851) Tyrone Ireland who was married to
Bridgett MULHOLLAND (b.1854-1859) Tyrone or Down Ireland. They came to
England somewhere before 1879 and settled in the village of Cowpen Bewley,
Stockton, Durham, where he worked in the Iron Works. I assume they were
married in Ireland. They can be found in the 1881 & 1891 census. The 1881
census also lists a Patrick CARR age 25 lodging with them who was presumably
Owen's brother. The 1891 census also lists a Margaret MULHOLLAND age 2 as
sister to Bridget. I believe Bridget died early in 1893 as Michael was shown
as adopted. I can find no record of Owen's death.
They had seven children:
Edward CARR b. abt. 1879 died before 1891
John CARR b. 1881 died 10th June 1916, The Somme.
Catherine CARR b. abt. 1883 )
Annie CARR b. abt. 1884 ) Both supposedly emigrated to USA.
Bernard CARR b. abt. 1888
Margaret CARR b. abt 1890
Michael CARR b. 16th Jan 1893, m. Alice Maud Punshon, Middlesbrough
1916. They had three children:
Kenneth CARR b. 7th March 1917 Middlesbrough,(my father)
Kathleen CARR no birth record found.
Margaret CARR b. 1922 Middlesbrough.
The family emigrated to USA (Philadelphia) about 1924. I can find a record
in the 1930 US Census showing Michael and Kenneth CARR living as borders in
Montgomery, Pennsylvania, but no record of his wife or 2 daughters. I
understand Michael died in Philadelphia after the war, but I can find no
record or this either. Alice Maud returned to England after his death,
re-married and died in Bedford.
Kenneth returned to England in about 1937 and married in Bedford in 1942. He
died last year.
I do not know what happened to Kathleen and Margaret although I believe
Margaret lived in Jacksonville Fl.
If anybody can fill in any gaps or link this to their tree that would be
great!
All the best,
Steve Carr
