Hi John,
My Family Tree DNA kit number is 392637, and my uncle Kenneth Carr will be
providing the sample. Unfortunately, there will be a delay in his getting
it due to the fact that although I filled in his name and address on the
order form, I did not save it. Thus the confirmation email I got indicates
that the kit will be sent to me here in Hawaii. Ken lives in Texas, so I
will have to reship it.
My Carr paternal line "dead end" is with Stephen Carr, born about 1824 in
Alabama. He married Martha Jane Williams, also born in Alabama, about
1844, and they appear on the Tax rolls in Arkansas in 1848. Stephen died in
Arkansas in about 1855. Based on oral history and some census records, we
are pretty sure that Stephen and Martha Jane were from the part of Alabama
bordering Tennessee. They had a total of six children, whom the widow moved
first to Barry County, Missouri from 1858 to 1863 and then to Independence
County Arkansas from 1863 to 1875. In 1875 the widow Martha Jane and her
surviving five adult children moved from Arkansas to Erath County, Texas in
a wagon train. We have some wonderful stories of the trek, btw. I am
descended from the second son, William Elijah Carr 1849-1900, thence his son
Stephen Lawrence Carr 1883-1966 and my father Raymond Carr 1923-2007.
Kenneth is my dad's youngest brother.
I have taken the
Ancestry.com DNA test and have some matches that trace
back to some female Carrs from the Tennessee-Alabama border area.
Interestingly two of these women moved with their husbands to the same part of
Arkansas where Stephen settled at about the same time. I'm sure you know that
extended families often migrated in tandem.
Anyway, I hope this gives you the info you need to help with the matches
when I finally get the kit to Uncle Ken.
Take care and thanks for you work on this project,
Jerry L. Carr
