With the Holiday season approaching, family gatherings are a wonderful
opportunity to interview relatives, as well as to share with family
members the exciting discoveries from DNA testing and recruit
participants. A DNA test is a gift of discovery, which will continue to
provide discoveries in the future.
A limited number of discounts are available for new participants to the
Family Tree Carr Surname DNA Project. Reply to me directly, not
through the list, for details.
Family gatherings are an opportunity to recruit the relative that you
need to take a DNA test. A festive setting combined with a simple,
non-technical explanation of the test will go a long way to overcome
fears and concerns. I will be sending out a separate e-mail with a
link to some great video segments that are great at explaining what
this is all about.
You may also want to consider raising donations to provide test kits
for participants who are critical to your research.
For those looking for unique gifts beyond a DNA test, consider the
following:
- A donation to the Project General Fund at FTDNA or DNA Heritage can
be used to offset the cost for other Carrs who you want to take a DNA
test.
- Y DNA Haplogroup or mtDNA Haplogroup pins, from
www.DNApin.com.
- Ancestral Roots ware from
www.DNAhaplogear.com
Another special holiday gift to get someone started with DNA testing is
to order a kit from the National Geographic's Genographic Project.
Whether it's for a family member who holds a different piece of your
family's ancestry or a friend for whom it's impossible to shop, send
them on their own genetic journey by giving a Genographic Project
Participation Kit as a gift.
The link to order your Participation Kit is
http://www.genographic.com
And remember, net proceeds from the sale of Public Participation Kits
go to the Genographic Legacy Fund to support indigenous and traditional
culture conservation efforts.

The 3rd International Conference on Genetic Genealogy was held November
3-4, 2006 in Houston, Texas. It was covered by the Voice of America,
and a short video of the coverage can be seen here:
http://www.voanews.com/english/2006-11-24-voa49.cfm.
The Carr Surname Genetic Genealogy Project now has over 60 paternal
lines and is continuing to grow. More ancestral connections are
waiting to be made. Encourage the Carr families you know to join the
adventure.
Season's Greetings to each one of you. Jim Carr is updating the
project web site, so expect to see new things there soon. Contribute
your suggestions and family information to the site.
Write anytime,
John Carr
If you have already received this e-mail, I apologize, there is
duplication between the FTDNA bulk e-mailer and this list. This list
will be my primary means of communication with Carr Family Genetic
Genealogy Project participants. The FTDNA bulk e-mailer will be
primarily used for FTDNA related information needed by participants
with accounts at that company. Thank you.
