Hi Larry, and all Carr-DNA list members, as well as anyone interested in learning about
your family history using DNA,
We would very much like to have some YSTR DNA haplotypes in the project from the Liverpool
or Ormskirk areas in the UK. I see that you contacted me back in 2006 about joining the
project. If you join us, we can see how your YSTR DNA haplotype fits into the Carr
paternal line haplotypes in the project. Unfortunately, I am not aware of any
participants who have traced their ancestry to those areas. However, if you have any
family whom you think will be a match to your paternal line you might consider sponsoring
a paternal line male descendant of that family for a test. That method has worked in
several cases recently.
Unfortunately, many families in the UK do not order DNA tests due to cost or because they
do not believe they will gain much from it. Having someone who is willing to cover the
test cost changes the equation immensely and it is easier to find men willing to
participate.
Every new member who joins our project encourages others to join as well since it
increases the odds of finding a DNA match and a link to ones ancestors. So, please Larry,
join with us in learning about your ancestors. The same goes for everyone who has been
hesitating about ordering a kit and joining the Carr Family DNA Genealogy Project.
Here are links where you can order a DNA test kit. I highly endorse Family Tree DNA as
the preferred DNA for genealogy test company. Results from Carr Surname Project members
at FTDNA are automatically added to the Carr Surname Group and posted to the FTDNA Carr
website where they can be viewed by others seeking a DNA match. Results can be held
anonymously if desired, but since these results serve no purpose except for genealogy,
there is no reason to feel nervous about sharing your YSTR haplotype. The project serves
as your watch dog to find you a match and put you in contact with other's who may
share history with your recent paternal line.

The FTDNA affiliate IGENEA has offices in several European countries to provide a local
contact for those wishing to test through a local company.

DNA Heritage also has a Carr Surname Group that is linked to this project. As your
project administrator, I also have IDs on most DNA for genealogy test companies, so I can
also locate Carr YSTR haplotypes on company websites that allow groups where people share
their haplotypes.

If you have YSTR results from another DNA for genealogy test company, you can add them to
the project by listing the marker number and allele count in an e-mail to CarrfamilyDNA
at earthlink dot net ( in e-mail addy format). You can also use the forms on the Carr
& Kerr website.
