"WINCHESTER -- Paul S. Carper, Sr., 80, died Nov. 26, 2005, in Winchester Medical
Center. Mr. Carper was born Jan. 8, 1925, in Middletown, son of the late Floyd Turner and
Vallie Barnes Gordon Carper. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having taken part in the
D-Day invasion of Normandy during World War II. He owned and operated Paul's TV and
Radio Center in Winchester for 30 years. In retirement, he worked part-time for his son at
Carper's Wood Creations in Strasburg. He was a member of First United Methodist
Church, Winchester Moose Lodge No. 1283, a charter member of Blue Ridge Kiwanas Club in
Winchester, the South End Drum and Bugle Corps, and the McIlwee Municipal Band, and was an
avid bowler.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Marie Carper; two sons, Paul S. Carper, Jr. of Winchester
and William T. Carper of Strasburg; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A
son, Ronald W. Carper, died in 2003.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, at Riverview Cemetery,
Strasburg, by the Revs. Debbie Powell, Dr. Richard Goeres, and Pastor Steve Meister. A
memorial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at First United Methodist, 308 N.
Braddock St., Winchester, with the Rev. Powell and Pastor Meister officiating. Memorials
may be made to the charity of one's choice.
