Looking for information exchange on the
medieval Carpentier family.The family originated
in Cambrai and were perhaps the descendants
of Baldwin I, the Count of Flanders. The line flourished
in England from the 1200s as a distinguished merchant
family with important ties to the crown.
From the 1300s the original Cambrai Carpentier
family was active in cloth manufacture and trade. A
prominent Carpentier group flourished in Gascony
and is well documented from mid 1200s. All of the above
groups were active in the wool, cloth and wine trade
of the middle ages. Much more work needs to
be done. I have primarily researched the English story.
