The following is an update of my prior posting as a few new biographical details have come
to light.
I am looking for family members of Rev. George Raphael Carpentier, O.P., a Catholic
Dominican priest. Born in Rennes, France in 1887. He came to US with only his father at
very young age. His father, Georges Carpentier, was reportedly a French ordinance officer
on loan to the US Navy. The elder Carpentier was naturalized a US citizen in Virginia.
Rev. Carpentier's mother died in France before his arrival in the US. He had two
sisters who stayed in France (presumably in Rennes), one of them reportedly became a nun.
Rev. Carpentier was ordained in 1913 and served as a US military chaplain in the 42nd US
Division in World War I. He received the Silver Star, Distinguished Service Cross and
Purple Heart. He had religious assignments after the war in Ohio, Tennessee, Louisiana and
Oklahoma.
