My family tree originating in New England has lots of Knights' in it. And probably
not so unusual to find someone with their mother's maiden name as a middle name.

I have Jesse Knight Carpenter born c1795 in VT. His wife was Mary
born in NY. His children were born in NY. By 1838 he was in Parke Co., IN, purchasing
government land. He is in Washington Co., IA, for the 1880 census. According to it, his
father was born in New York and mother in New Hampshire.
The middle name Knight is unusual. Is it possible that he ties into Knight Carpenter?
