Henry Carpenter of Locking's will arrived and was legible and mainly
readable. Henry referred to himself as 'Henry Carpenter of Ginge'. Ginge was
outlining land of Wantage and belonged to Abbington Abbey until the
Dissolution in 1538. After that the land went to the Winchcomb family the
celebrated cloth makers. Robert Carpenter of Locking must have stayed on the
land after the Dissolution. Henry had various children, a son and daughter's
names I can't yet read. However he had sons Robert?William and John. A
witness to the will was a William Carpenter, same as above I presume. Henry
was described as a husbandman and I would guess he was raising wool on abbey
land. I saw no mention of a son Richard, but there is still one son's name.
However?there seemed no references to any brothers or sisters of Henry
himself which raises suspicions this Henry was the son of Reading Thomas.
Only one son Henry was named in the will of Thomas. There does however seem
too many children of Henry to be the son of Thomas. Thomas named only one
son of Henry six years previously and Locking Henry had six children (it
seems) in 1526. There is still the danger I am misreading
the will. Patience please. This will should be easy to fully transcribe
later.
