I just received the National Archives Records for Charles D. Carpenter, Son of Mason
Carpenter and Fanny Olds. the records are around 150 pages, Here is what I have extracted
so far. The bulk of the records are concerning his wife Mary and step daughter Nelle
attempting to collect his Civil War disability Pension. As soon as I get a chance I will

she was born in 1840 in Barre, Washington County, Vermont and died nob 5 1921 in Barre,
Washington County, Vermont, she is the daughter of Robert & Mary Nichols
Charles is her second husband, her first husband was Lorenzo Stowe b 1835 in Canada and
died jan 16 1863 in Falmouth, Virginia in the civil war in the 12th Regt Rhode Island
Inf., he died of Typhoid Fever, he is the son of Alonzo and Eliz Stowe.
Lorenzo and Mary were married March 11, 1859 in Barre, Washington County, Vermont They
have one child together Nellie Jane Stowe who was born jul 29 1861 in Burlington, Vermont.
Nellie Jane applied for an orphans Pension after her fathers death.
Charles Carpenter served in Company C. First Regt. Vermont Cavalry as a saddler.
Mary's residence when Charles died was 47 Spaulding Street, Barre, Washington County,
Vermont Charles is buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Barre, Washington County, Vermont. Charles
received a disability pension from the war. records state he was deaf, Children to Charles
and Mary were Lenora E. Carpenter b August 09, 1868 and Charles Leslie Carpenter b
December 21, 1872
