1840, April 16: Edgefield Advertiser, State of South Carolina. Edgefield District. Reuben
CARPENTER et al. Applicants. Nancy MOSELY et al. Defendants. It appearing to my
satisfaction, that Nancy MOSELY and Anna DANNER, two fo the defendants in this case,
resides without the limits of this state. It is therefore ordered, that they do appear and
object to the division or sale of the real estate of FANNY BUTLER, deceased, on or before
the first day of June next or their consent will be entered of record, this 2nd day of

1840, June 11: Edgefield Advertiser, State of South Carolina. Edgefield District. Reuben
CARPENTER & Others (Applicants) vs Nancy MOSELY and Others (Defendants) } By an Order
from the Ordinary, I shall proceed to sell at Edgefield Courthouse, on the first Monday in
July next, the real estate of Fanny BUTLER, deceased, situated in said District, on
Stephen's Creek, bounding on lands of John ROCHELL, George ROBERTSON, Charles NIX and
the said Reuben CARPENTER, and containing one hundred acres, more or less, on a credit of
twelve months. The purchaser shall be required to give bond and good personal security,
and a mortgage of the premisis to the Ordinary. Cost to be paid in cash. S. CHRISTIE

1841, Oct 28: Edgefield Advertiser, State of South Carolina. Edgefield District. By
Oliver TOWLES, Esquire Ordinary of Edgefield. Where as John TOMPKINS hath applied to me
for letters of Administration, on all and singular the goods and chattels, rights and
credit of Reuben CARPENTER, late of the district aforesaid, deceased. These are therefore
to cite, and admonish all and singular, the kindred and creditors of the said deceased, to
be and appear before me, at our next Ordinary's Court for the said District to be
holden at Edgefield Court House on the 8th day of November 1841, to show cause if any, why
the said administration should not be granted. Given under my hand and seal this 21st day
of October, one thousand eight hundred and forty one, and in the 65th year of American

BUTLER and wife (Applicants) vs Thomas CARPENTER and Others (Deft's). It appearing to
my satisfaction that Thomas CARPENTER, R. CARPENTER, James GRAY and his wife Mary, reside
without the limits of this state. It is therefore ordered that they do appear and object
to the division or sale of the Real estate of Reuben CARPENTER, deceased, on or before the
third day of January next, or their consent to the same be entered of record. O. TOWLES,

BUTLER and wife (Applicants) vs Thomas CARPENTER and Others (Deft's). By an order from
the Ordinary, I shall proceed to sell at Edgefield Court House, on the first Monday in
January next, the lands of the estate of Reuben CARPENTER, deceased, situate in said
District, on the waters of Stephen's Creek, tract No. 1 adjoining lands of Abram
KILCREASE and others, containing one hundred and fifty four acres, more or less; tract No.
2 adjoining lands of Charles NIX and others, containing one hundred and twelve and a half
acres, more or less, to be sold on a credit of twelve months, purchaser shall be required
to give bond and good personal security, and a mortgage of the premisis to the Ordinary,
