Subject: [ISOGG] Daughters of the American Revolution now accepting DNA as a lineage
proof!
FINALLY!!! The DAR has decided to join the GSMD (General Society of Mayflower
Descendants), and the SAR in accepting Y-DNA for lineage proof. For those of you who
don't know, DAR was actually the first lineage society to accept DNA for lineage proof
back in 2004, but then reversed the policy due to politics and other reasons.
In 2008, I gave a DNA presentation, along with Whit Athey to their DNA study group at DAR
National Headquarters to show how DNA could be used for lineage proof. They did not seem
receptive to it then, but I knew as time went on, more and more members would use it and
once they understood how it worked and how other lineage societies use it, they would
accept it again.
