Subject: [ISOGG] Daughters of the American Revolution now accepting DNA as a li
neage proof!
FINALLY!!! The DAR has decided to join the GSMD (General Society of Mayflower
Descendants), and the SAR in accepting Y-DNA for lineage proof. For those of y
ou who don't know, DAR was actually the first lineage society to accept DNA for
lineage proof back in 2004, but then reversed the policy due to politics and o
ther reasons.
In 2008, I gave a DNA presentation, along with Whit Athey to their DNA study gr
oup at DAR National Headquarters to show how DNA could be used for lineage proo
f. They did not seem receptive to it then, but I knew as time went on, more an
d more members would use it and once they understood how it worked and how othe
r lineage societies use it, they would accept it again.
