DOLGEVILLE - Leland A. Carpenter Jr., 62, of 14 Slawson St., Dolgeville, passed away
Sunday, July 23, 2006, at his residence.
He was born on August 14, 1943, in Little Falls, the son of the late Leland A. and Laura
(Wood) Carpenter Sr. He was educated in Stratford schools. He was united in marriage to
the former Eva M. Jaikin on August 27, 1977, in Mohawk.
Mr. Carpenter was a veteran of the U.S. Army, entering the service on January 31, 1962, in
Syracuse. He was honorably discharged as a private first class on December 31, 1967, at
Ft. Rucker, Alabama. He was a member of the Curtiss Corners Stone Chapel, Salisbury, as
well as a member of Adirondack American Legion Post No. 1118, Cold Brook, the Salisbury
Volunteer Fire Department and the North American 40+ touring riders motorcycle club. He
was avid motorcycle rider, bowler and horseshoe player.
Mr. Carpenter was employed for many years as a construction worker in both New York and
Florida. He was employed for the past three years as a truck driver for the Herkimer
County Highway Department
He is survived by his wife Eva of Apopka, Fla.; his companion, Donna Boyer of Dolgeville,
with whom he resided; two sons, Leland (Butch) Carpenter III and his wife Carrie of
Dolgeville and James P. Carpenter and Betty Daley of Salisbury; his daughter, Tara Roshy
and her husband Gary of Lake Mary, Fla.; a step-son, Wayne Jaikin and his wife Bridget of
Apopka, Fla.; a step-daughter, Tessa Monroe and Brian Boyer of Dolgeville; two brothers,
Frederick Carpenter and Linda of Salisbury and Conrad Carpenter and Charlene of
Dolgeville; his sister, Anna Bulluck and Raymond of Salisbury Center; a half-brother,
Raymond Bilger and Joan of Salisbury; five half-sisters, Donna Baum and William of
Salisbury Center, Patricia Griffin and Brian of Dolgeville, Sandra Smith and Clark of
Richfield Springs, Judy Barnes and Carl of Dolgeville and Deloris Perkov of Little Falls;
13 grandchildren, one great-grandson and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, Scott G. Carpenter, who died on September 12, 1984.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 26, 2006, at 6 p.m. from the
Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann St., Little Falls, with the Rev. Rodney
Congdon, pastor of the Curtiss Corners Stone Chapel, officiating. Relatives and friends
are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 26, 2006, from
4-6 p.m. and to attend the funeral services to follow.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 28, 2006, at 1 p.m. at the Curtiss
Cemetery, town of Salisbury.
It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Carpenter be considered
to the Salisbury Volunteer Fire Department, State Route 29, Salisbury Center, NY 13454.
