Blood is usually typed in 2 ways: according to the ABO groupings, and
according to the Rhesus factor (expressed as Rh negative or Rh positive).
Certain blood types are dominant, & others are recessive. What blood type
you have depends on your parents' blood types.
Of course, there are many, many subgoupings that are used to identify tissue
& blood types now, as needed for matching transplant tissues.
With regard to transfusions, everyone can receive blood type O negative in
an emergency, so if you're that blood type, please donate!
