Folks,
While checking my Melvins and Wisners, who are in the Branch Co. 1850
census, and were descended from the NY Carpenters, I researched the Carpenter
surname in this book, on line,
Ancestry.com.
Anyway, I was not usually able to know which town they were in without a lot
of back tracking, but came up with several folks - most starting, say, in
the mid 1830s, thru 1870s, more or less:
All Carpenter surnames: so, will not repeat here.
Charles N. ... Company B. mustered out 9/16/1865
Elijah S. Justice of Peace 1865
Richard 1866
H.T. ...Farmer's National Bank
George 1874, town of Bronson
Wm H.
Harvey 1835 Algansee
Luke J.
Walter B. 1872
Willis 1856
Listed together:
Luke J
Theordore
and Charles N. all 1872
------------------------ This is probably a ratty way to give the
information but finding which town would have taken an awful lot of time and I would
not have even bothered to try to share. I can do a specific name look up if
someone needs.
Also, we know that in our Carpenter line (Moses of Orange Co. and Onondaga
Cos. NY) the name 'Carpenter" was used as a given name, so I also noted the
people in Branch Co. book with Carpenter as a given name: here goes:
Carpenter Chaffee, 1839-1899 , blacksmith, Union Township
and
Carpenter T. Williams 1846

I am trying to figure out why my Milan Morrel Melvin was given the names:
Milan and Morrel. I did find a Sindall Morrell in this
book.........duh......anyone have any interests in the Morrell name?
Phoebe in CA
