David Robison
Sylva - David Robison, 82, of Greens Creek Road, died Thursday, April 5, 2007, at Harris
Regional Hospital after a period of declining health.
A former Floridian, Dave called Sylva home for the past 15 years, and was a member of the
First Baptist Church of Sylva.
A retired architect who owned his own firm for over 40 years, Dave designed numerous
commercial and residential properties including Vero Beach Florida's Driftwood Inn and
the Indian River Community College buildings. He also designed most of Piper
Aircraft's manufacturing facilities in Florida, including the groundbreaking idea of
turntable painting. It halved the time it took Piper Aircraft to paint a plane.
Dave was a avid golfer, and three-time past president of Vero Beach Country Club. He owned
and flew sailplanes and was a amateur radio operator. He enjoyed woodworking and made
shelves, tables, chests and doll cribs for friends, children and grandchildren. He also
enjoyed being the WLOS 13 Weather-Spotter and a volunteer with the WestCare Health System
in Sylva.
He was a U.S. Navy Pilot in WW II where he received his Navy Wings of Gold and flew a F6F
Fighter Hell Cat. He was son of the late David Vincent and Amey Doris Van Horn Robison.
Preceded in death by an infant son.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Surviving is his wife, Lois Seraphine Robison; one daughter, Janet L. Robison of Sanford,
Fla.; stepdaughters, Shelly Burchfield and husband, Ed, of Seneca, S.C., Donna Nutter of
Raleigh, Karen Martin and husband, Todd, of Vero Beach, Fla.; one son, David Terrence
Robison and wife, Olga, of Allentown, Pa.; 11 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Monday at MeltonRiddle Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev.
Kenneth Byrd officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date.
The family will receive friends noon to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
