Sandi,
See below. I think Sarah Powers married Benjamin Carpenter the son of
Nathan. See notes below.
John R. Carpenter
La Mesa, CA
1. Nathan Carpenter-4688 was born on 26 Sep 1700 in Rehoboth, Bristol, MA.
He died on 12 Aug 1770.
Number 242 in the Carpenter Memorial on page 78.
His family is on page 134 (#109).
His son Nathan was baptized in Woodstock, CT on 20 Dec 1730. Nathan of
Dudley
bought land in Harwick, MA 29 June 1733 and probably removed there about
that
time, he being one of the early inhabitants. His family residence was near
the
"Old Furnance" and he owned a part of the saw mill then standing of "Moose
Brook". He only mentions his two eldest children in his will. Two of his
children were born there. He went to Dudley, was in Dudley in 1733, and was
one of the early settlers of that place. Died age 69.
There is some handwritten notes in my copy of the CM for this family.
"(1) Palin?e Town?" next to Gideon.
"bef 2nd w. Abigail Ra?d?" next to Nathan.
"m. 15-3-73 A?na Cox" inserted for 1st marriage for Nathan.
"by 32 w Sarah Powe??" next to Benjamin.
"m. pubr. 2-1-73 Daniel M?????g a farme? d. Har?ic? Mas" for Dinah.
The "?" means unknown letter. It is difficult reading.
MARRIAGE: Marriage number 3 does not seem to be supported by facts. It
seems a corruption of the
Sarah Powers who married Benjamin incorrectly set as a spouse to Nathan.
Nathan married (1-MRIN:1916) Patience Tower-12977 on 26 Dec 1723 in
Woodstock, Windsor, CT. Patience was born about 1700 in , , CT. She died
before Jun 1730 in Woodstock, Windham, CT.
They had the following children:
2 M i. Gideon Carpenter-20599 was born on 24 May 1725
in Woodstock, Windham, CT. He died on 28 Nov 1805 in , , MA.

Nathan also married (2-MRIN:1917) Abigail Sabin-12978, daughter of James
Sabin-94191 and Abigail Brazier-94192 (MRIN:33926), on 16 Jun 1730 in
Hardwick, , MA. Abigail was born on 6 May 1704 in Rehoboth, Bristol, MA. She
died after 1757 in Hardwick, Worcester, MA.
They had the following children:
4 M iii. Nathan Carpenter-20600 was born on 9 Oct 1731
in Woodstock, Windham, CT and was christened on 20 Dec 1731 in Woodstock,
Windham, CT. He died on 3 Sep 1814 in , , MA and was buried in South
Attleboro, Bristol, MA.
Number 742 in the Carpenter Memorial on page 134.
BIRTH: Nathan was probably born in Woodstock, CT since he was baptised
there.
However the CM has him born in Hardwick.
Nathan Carpenter of Hardwick, MA enlisted as private in the Lexington scare
in
Capt. Simon Houghton's company and served 12 days. He enlisted a second
time
as private in Capt. Billings Company, Col. Leonard's Regiment, dated May 14,
1775 and served 3 months and 14 days.
There is some hand written notes in my copy of the CM for this family.
"bef 2nd w. Abigail Ba?d?" next to Nathan.
"m. 15-3-73 A?na Cox" inserted for 1st marriage for Nathan.
Nathan married (1-MRIN:8545) Anna Cox-20628, daughter of Ebenezer Cox
Capt.-45971 (MRIN:8563), on 15 Mar 1773 in Hardwick, Worcester, MA. Anna was

1733 in Woodstock, Windham, CT.
Number 743 in the Carpenter Memorial on page 134.
She married Searl or Nathan Daggett or as the CM states "perhaps both as 1st
and 2d husband."
Abigail married (MRIN:8550) Searl or Benjamin Daggett-20627 on 5 Nov 1755 in
Hardwick, Worcester, MA. Searl was born about 1733 in , Worcester, MA.
Father may be Hepsibah Daggett who was born in 1701 and died in 1736 in the
town of Rehoboth, Bristol, MA.
6 M v. Isaiah Carpenter-20608 was born on 18 Mar 1735

No family listed. His marriage was published 24 Feb. 1762.
Isaiah married (MRIN:8551) Hannah Robinson-20626 about 24 Feb 1762 in
Hardwick, Worcester, MA. Hannah was born about 1735 in Hardwick, Worcester,
MA.
7 M vi. Benjamin Carpenter-20609 was born on 8 Apr 1737
in Hardwick, Worcester, MA. He died in of, Cayuga, NY.
Number 745 in the Carpenter Memorial on page 134.
Family on page 251 (# 272). Children probably from second marriage.
The CM has his birth in 1737 and marriage number two to Sarah Powers on June
8,
1738. This is probably should read 1758.
His child, Susannah was listed as born as Feb. 29, 1739, and this should
probably read 1759. Susannah married Abel Benjamin March 22, 1759. This is
incorrect also and the marriage should be thrown out. See number 746 on
page 134 for Susannah who married Abel Benjamin. A Benjamin is hand written
in as a second child with something about Cayuga and a date that looks like
1759.
He resided in Harwick. Benjamin Carpenter enlisted as private in Capt.
William White's Company, Col. Brown's Regiment dated July 18, 1780 and
served
10 days in Berkshire County Regiment, serving at New York. Benjamin
Carpenter's name appears on a receipt dated Aug. 4, 1780 for $1800 bounty
(yes,
I know but that is the way it is written in the CM) signed to Capt. William
Douglas for three months service for town of Hardwick.
Benjamin married (1-MRIN:8552) Abigail-20623 about 1756 in Hardwick,
Worcester, MA. Abigail was born about 1737 in , Worcester, MA. She died
about 1757 in Hardwick, Worcester, MA.
Benjamin also married (2-MRIN:8553) Sarah Powers-20624 on 8 Jun 1758 in
Hardwick, Worcester, MA. Sarah was born on 8 Jun 1738 in , Worcester, MA.
She died about 1832 in Springwater, Livingston, NY.
DEATH: Death year uncertain. Died after the 1830 Census and before the 1835
State
Census.
MARRIAGE: IGI has a 8 Jun 1738 date for Sarah Powers marrying Nathan
Carpenter in Hardwick.
This is wrong. She married Benjamin Carpenter, the son of Nathan on 8 Jun
1758 in
Harwick. No proof that she later married the brother named Nathan (son of
Nathan).
8 F vii. Susannah Carpenter-20610 was born on 29 Feb
1740 in Hardwick, Worcester, MA.
Number 746 in the Carpenter Memorial on page 134.

10 F ix. Sarah Carpenter-20613 was born on 10 Aug 1746
in Hardwick, Worcester, MA. She died about Aug 1746 in Hardwick, Worcester,
MA.

Hardwick, Worcester, MA. She died in 1826 in Cayuga, Cayuga, NY and was
buried in Oldlake Road Cem, N. of Watkins, , NY.
The update on her family was supplied by Jim St. John of Bremerton, WA in a
letter dated 10 Oct. 1998. He indicates there was only one Sarah and not
two.
See Number 748 and 749 in the Carpenter Memorial.
Number 749 in the Carpenter Memorial on page 134.
That record has her born Aug 1747 in Hardwick. Below has update.

Marcia Buffett <pinezone(a)northnet.org> submitted this descendancy line. She
indicates that the Joseph Carpenter and Hannah Thayer family is documented
in
the Thayer "gurus" and book.
Ken Warkentine <warke(a)mountain-inter.net> is working on the same line.
