Joe,
More good points.
It appears that Google Groups and Facebook seem the most popular vote so far.
The big difference is posting to Google Groups and Carpenter Rootsweb are simple by using
a just a different email address. Google Groups allows attachments where Rootsweb does
not. And the history of Carpenter Rootsweb – for a large part – has been restored and is
searchable.
Facebook is web based, but can allow attachments and stories to be added. And many people
allow new post notifications to come to them by email.
It may take a few days or more for various members to respond. Most are on digest mode.
Then we can decide which is better for Carpenter Cousins!

Glad I could help.
Although I am not a huge fan of Facebook, I will say that their private groups are quite
powerful and allow for ease of use with little explanation or training to non-technical
folks. You can easily add albums, notes, stories, events and what not. As most folks
already use FB, the friction to get momentum going is quite small. Google Groups is a good
option, but there are some technical aspects to it that tend to confuse people. YMMV.
