John,
I agree that a facebook group would be a good option. I have never set up a group but I do
know that there are closed groups and open groups which require people interested in a
topic must ask to join and the administrator grants access in order to post. This enables
the administrator to remove someone if they don't play by the rules that have been
setup. There must be at least one admin. It is free and most people are familiar with
Facebook. I don't belong to any surname groups but I do belong to user groups of
genealogical software.

Just a thought.

My husband's family name has a genealogy group, Descendants of Alexander and Thomas
Joyce, on Facebook and it has worked wonderfully. They can share documents and pictures
and keep them in albums. The group has had quite a lot of success in tracing this line of
Joyces back to Northern Ireland, Scotland, and an area near the Pyranees Mountains through
intense dna research. I think that Facebook would certainly be an option.

Or, Google Groups and/or FaceBook are other zero cost options

Hello Cousins!
FYI - I received notice that the Carpenter Cousins Yahoo Group will be
closed by Yahoo at the end of this year.
The Carpenter Rootsweb email forum continues to limp along with occasional
outages as it is supervised by
Ancestry.com
Yahoo Group has encouraged all moderators to transfer their Yahoo group to
the new Group.io. See link below.
https://www..engadget.com/2019/10/16/yahoo-groups-to-shut-down/
I have requested a new CarpenterCousins Group.io to be set up. It is pending
approval under a basic plan.
Other than the basic format which I will try, any other plan will require a
monthly or yearly fee. It may or may not be worth the money for our needs.
It appears designed for larger groups that requires calendars, notices and
instant chat options. SEE:
