Thanks, John. I mis-spoke when referring to the Schumacher Carpenter line. I meant to say
Group 10, not Group 3! The book does have an extensive section on the Group 3 line,
however. And the Carpenter Memorial that is referenced sounds like it might be a wealth of
information for Group 3.
If no one has researched this union of a Yelverton and Carpenter I will pursue it. Knowing
that Group 7, Group 3, and Group 10(!) are distinctly different is what led to my
conclusion that perhaps the Carpenter that John Yelverton's daughter married was of a
different line.
I will report back to the group what I find.
Jane

Jane,
I have never seen the Schumacher Book data you cite. Maybe someone else on the list has?
Group 3 represents the descendants of William Carpenter-584 b. abt 1605 England who
immigrated in 1638 and who settled in present day Rehoboth, Bristol, MA.
Group 7 is a Southern USA line from VA. And the genetic profile is quite distinct from
Group 3.
John C# 20121 listed in Group 7 once claimed to have Group 3 ancestry. But this was
disproven by Y-DNA testing.
The Yelverton Carpenter b. c1774 NC is RIN (aka C#) 107908 in the Carpenter Cousins Y-DNA
database. Some of his descendants, as currently listed are in Group 5 and others in Group
7. There is another similar sounding name – Yelberton-165853 son of Christian(?) C#166194
b. c1745 NC (See Group 5 lineage) who we think his children are confused with.
Slowly we are figuring out the lineages, a little here and there with the Y-DNA testing.
But occasionally it is hit and miss since members (those who Y-DNA test) are volunteers.
And there are gaps where testing is really needed but not yet done.

Subject: [CarpenterCousins] Group 7 - Yelverton Carpenter research
The book, The Michael Schumacher Book, by William T. Blair is online on
Ancestry.com. The
section for Isaac Schumacher indicates that he married Catharine Elizabeth Carpenter. One
of the descendants of this couple married General Elihu Marvin. A footnote about the
Marvin descendants states the following –
John Yelverton, an early merchant in Goshen, Orange Co., N.Y., and at New Windsor, Ulster
Co., N.Y., and who owned a sloop at New Windsor and traded in New York, made his will at
New Windsor, N.Y., March 24, 1760, and it was probated Aug. 17, 1767. It names his only
living son, Anthony, to whom he gave his estate at Goshen, and his grandson, Abijah
Yelverton, to whom he gave his estate at Jordan and refers to his other grandchildren not
named. According to Egre (Bib. -162) the children of John Yelverton were: 1. John: 2.
Anthony; 3. Thomas; 4. James; 5. a daughter, married to ____________ Carpenter; 6. a
daughter, married to __________ Howell; 7. a daughter, Abigail, born 1723, died May 10,
1803, married to ________ Marvin, (General Elihu Marvin); 8. a daughter, married to
___________ Carman. (Bib. -92-152-162)
This is the only reference I have ever seen where the names Yelverton and Carpenter are
mentioned at the same time when it wasn’t referring to “Yelverton Carpenter” in the Group
7 Carpenters. Has anyone else seen this and researched who the daughter and her husband
named Carpenter might be?
I realize that Group 3 is named the Schumacher Carpenter line and that it apparently is
not related to Group 7. But what if the Carpenter mentioned in the footnote is not a Group
3 Carpenter but one from Group 7? Is this perhaps Stephen Carpenter (generally accepted,
but not proven father of Yelverton) or his father that married a daughter of John
Yelverton? It would certainly explain the unusual first name.
Bibliography for above referenced books..
9. Annals of Luzerne County, Pa., Stewart Pearce, Esq.
152. Collections of New York Historical Society
162. History of Orange Co, N.Y., Egre
274. Carpenter Memorial, Captain William Carpenter Family
As an aside, this book also discusses the Carpenters of Rehoboth.
