Hello Cousins,
Recently I received information that the parents of James Henry Carpenter (1846-1898) was
not correct. The evidence was conclusive enough to warrant a change to the Wikipedia
article on James Henry Carpenter. By the way he founded Carpenter Steel Company which is
now known as Carpenter Technology.
And secondarily this led to a review of his immediate ancestor records, siblings and
cousins. With another researcher, we found many new items and documented them. This
effort also provided a much better understanding of this part of the Carpenter line.
The Wikipedia article is at:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Henry_Carpenter
And I cite the reason for the change in a reference that is really more than a note.
Currently from James Henry Carpenter is his father William Henry Carpenter (1825-1899)
then grandfather James Carpenter (abt 1800-1871). We believe this is a Carpenter line who
is descendant from William Carpenter (b. abt 1605 England) who immigrated in 1638 and who
settled in Rehoboth, Bristol, MA. This is represented by Group 3 in the Carpenter Cousins
Y-DNA Project.
I use internal sources for documentation for my research. I also include emails, questions
and comments about the data found or needed. And what I find is cited so you or another
researcher can double check them. And I sometimes provide a url that can be a little long
when I feel it is needed. All such is done in a time line manner. All in all it is not a
cleaned up book report but an in progress research effort.

Some may say this is over kill and that external sources are better. For some things,
yes, external sources – when properly done – are better. But the ease of copy then paste
so you can see the complete entry is more important in my thinking for researching.
Finally it is a good thing to do a review of parts of your ancestry from time to time.
More and more records are coming on line and available for researchers. And there may be
something there that may cause you to rethink what you have or to modify as needed.
Best Wishes!
