Jerry,
Good Ops.
I added the note with an explanation to Nicholas Carpenter-14570 (b. abt
1739 West Greenwich, Kent, Rhode Island, USA - d. 1822 Waterboro, York,
Maine, USA) who married on 8 Sep 1761 to Mairiam Davis-20533 (b. abt
1740/1743 of West Greenwich, Kent, Rhode Island, USA and maybe born in NH -
d. 1 Nov 1825 Coventry, Tolland, Connecticut, USA)
Notes for Nicholas C-14570:
Number 708 in the Carpenter Memorial on page 131.
Family on page 247 (#261). A farmer.
NOTE:
On Page 765 of the Carpenter Memorial under number 8097-d is the following
partial note:
Nicholas, No. 708. the grandfather of this family; died in Waterboro, Me. in
1822. He was the first settler in North Waterboro. which was then called
Massabenic Plantation and settled all of his sons except Benjamin near him.
...
- The note then describes his son John and his two marriages and second
marriage children. Strangely this note is under his daughter Mary who
married Capt. William Sedgley instead of son John. I believe the normal
separator is missing here. So it appears as if the note belongs to 9097-d
Mary.
NOTE:
He moved to Somersworth, NH (correction: Waterboro, ME!) aft 1761 and died
there in 1822.
He settled all his sons there except Benjamin. Per notes on page 837.
Nicholas appears to have enlisted on Nov. 5, 1775, in Moses ?'s Company,
on Pierce's Island; again as private. July 3, 1780: was discharged Oct. 26,
1780 and was on the payroll for the defense of West Point in Captain Tim
Emerson's company.
LAND:
Nicholas Carpenter, of North Waterborough, Maine (Mass at that time) who got
his 180 acres by being a veteran of the Revolutionary War. All recorded in
the York County seat in Alfred, Maine.
Per the Beekman Patent book he had 6 children. See father's notes.

interested in this family.
One day, I really need to update that online report!

Subject: [CARPENTER] Info on Nicholas Carpenter
Hi John, and Happy New Year! One of my cousins, Laurie Carpenter Rowan
has recently notified me of some DNA results that appear to verify my
research on our branch of the Carpenter line as listed on ABC Memorial
Book. This means that the Carpenter line which has been researched
independently through North Waterboro, Alfred County, Maine, records,
and records from Laval University genealogy library in Quebec for St.
Sylvestre, Lotbiniere county are correct for this particular Carpenter
line as listed in the Amos Bugbee Carpenter (ABC) Memorial book. The
recent DNA results seem to be sufficient to tie our present Carpenter
line to Nicholas Carpenter (pg. 765) and his family.
Anyway, I was writing to correct and add to the notes on the page
below. I haven't looked at this web site until today.
https://carpentercousins.com/wc-584-desc/aqwn48.htm#7185
for Nicholas Carpenter. It seems the information on page 765 is more
accurate for the page above as Nicholas died in 1822 in North Waterboro
Maine, not Somersworth NH. Here is that snippet from page 765
Thank you very much!
