Hello Cousins,
This is a delayed death announcement.
James Edward “Jim” Carpenter was the first Group Administrator of the Carpenter Cousins
Y-DNA Project. And he passed the mantle on to others because of his health. On our
Welcome letter, we continued his name as our titular head Group Administrator.
I first met him in September 2002 where a Carpenter discussion group was held in
Clearwater, Florida. One item of discussion was how Y-DNA research could help
Carpenter/Zimmerman genealogy. Jim had just set up the Carpenter Cousins Y-DNA Project
with his kit number 4823. He convinced me that this would help Carpenter Cousins in many
ways. He was right.
Also present then was Arthur Carpenter (#5543, now deceased) who was the second member of
the surname research project and I (5734) became its third member. As of May 2018, by
word of mouth only the Carpenter Cousins Y-DNA Project has over 445 members from various
DNA testing companies.
At our last phone call, Jim indicated he was not doing very well, I then lost contact
with him. Recently I confirmed his passing. See his obit and grave info below.
Our delayed condolences to his family.
Thank You Jim for what you started!
