I apologize for not asking before. Where do i order this from and how much
does it cost?

Carole,
Bob Carpenter is the Carpenter Cousins Y-DNA Project Group 5 leader. As he
mentioned, he is on vacation and will get back to you after the weekend.
I am John R. Carpenter, a group administrator of the Carpenter Cousins
Y-DNA
Project. I keep the master database, answer questions and such.
Group 5 is one of several groups that show a genetic pattern based on Y-DNA
marker values. As you know, the male Y Chromosome is passed from father to
son virtually unchanged over the generations. This makes it excellent for
surname studies like the Carpenter Cousins Y-DNA Project.
>From Table 1 on the main Carpenter Cousins Y-DNA Project web page, scroll
down to Group 5. Then click on an ID number to the left of the table. This
will take you to the Group 5 lineage report. This shows the lineages of
those who have taken Y-DNA tests. See:
http://carpentercousins.com/carpdna.htm#table1
Another link to the Group 5 lineages follows:
http://carpentercousins.com/generallineage.htm#capl
Your lineage descends from Hans "John" Zimmerman-92092. Your help in
sponsoring a living male Carpenter cousin or uncle for a Y-DNA test would
be
helpful.
FYI: The ID number after the surname is the main database number for the
individual. On the lineage page it is referred to as the "C#". This is a
shortcut name for the Carpenters' Encyclopedia of Carpenters. I usually
use
"CE" followed by the publication year. For a few examples see:
http://www.werelate.org/wiki/Repository:Carpenters'_Encyclopedia_of_C...
Please review our Carpenter Cousins Y-DNA Project web page. It answers many
questions. But, feel free to ask me any question either on this list our
to
my email address ( jrcrin001(a)cox.net ).

I have not had DNA testing done although I appear to be a descendant of
Owen Carpenter who died answering the door while holding his newborn son
during the revolutionary war. For certain I am a descendant of Adam C
Carpenter b. 12 Aug 1829 and his wife Malissa Minyard b. 13 Jun 1837. Their
daughter Sarah Ellen Carpenter b. Jan 1859 married Eugene Blewett Bamberg
b. 22 Mar 1859 who had their last surviving child, My grand father, Andy L
Bamberg 6 December 1898.

Deborah,
That story sounds familiar.
See number 94 at:
http://carpentercousins.com/Group7Desc/aqwg04.htm#136
Read the notes.
There is a bit of controversy over which Thomas was whom. The info at
Find-A-Grave for example is highly inaccurate. See:
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=62167424
What would be interesting is for you to sponsor a living male Carpenter
relative for Y-DNA testing. If they test for Group 7 that will help
triangulation the ancestry back to a common ancestor.
Out of curiosity, did your Malissa Minyard b. 13 Jun 1837 have a sister
named Margaret "Maggie" Minyard-163419 b. 7 Jul 1839 in Caroll county, MS?
She married a John Carpenter-158645 on 8 Dec 1877 in MS. If so, please
contact me off list at: jrcrin001(a)cox.net
