You’re right that it’s David, not Daniel (a common misreading). The document grants to
Abiah4 Carpenter, son of Samuel3 and Sarah (Redway) Carpenter and brother of David
Carpenter (d. Rehoboth 26 July 1701, aged 26), guardianship of the latter’s children,
David and Rebecca, whom the elder David had with his wife, Rebecca (Ward?) (Hunt)
Carpenter. Rebecca’s first husband had been Ephraim Hunt; after David Carpenter’s death,
she went on to marry two more times.
I’m not a collector of Carpenter documents but am nevertheless grateful for your having
thought of me and will post the information on RootsWeb's Carpenter mailing list.
