For those who haven't discovered it yet, I'm sharing some links related
to a new television series that's set in 1778-era British Army-occupied
Long Island. Of course it's a TV drama, and some historical details may
not be as accurate as we would like, but I find it generally well done
and representing the spirit of the times. Those who have studied
Colonial history and have traced their family trees to that time already
have a huge advantage for understanding this remarkable story. A main
theme of the show is the personal conflict and divided family loyalties
between those who share the American patriot/rebel vision, those who
support King and Country, and those who just want to be left alone to
make a living.
The cable-resident American Movie Channel (AMC) introduces a new episode
at 9 PM Eastern time each Sunday. There are other repeat showings
during the week. I don't know what the equivalent Canadian and British
cable channel would be. Would someone please post that information?
Watching "Turn" isn't going to solve anyone's research brick-wall
problems, but it can provide some perspective and context for our family
history work.
