Vivian,
Without proof, someone in the past stated that the father of James Alexander
Carpenter (b. 1803 NC d. 1899 New Augusta, Perry, MS) was Solomon Carpenter
that married Elizabeth Poer and they divorced. Again no proof given.
By finding a male descendant of James Alexander Carpenter we can compare the
Y-DNA to others already tested. This may help solve the mystery.
I am sending a copy of this message to Bbaughn(a)att.net - is this the Linda
you mentioned in your email? Let me know off list.

Subject: [CARPENTER] ARE THE CARPENTERS IN PERRY CO MS FROM CARPENTERS
OFMOORE-CUMBERLAND OR MONTGOMERY CO NORTH CAROLINA
Carpenter List Members,
Are these Carpenters in Perry County, Mississippi, part of the
Moore-Cumberland County North Carolina branch of Owen Carpenter??? One
branch of Carpenters from this area did go to Mississippi in the early
1800's. It would seem that Owen Carpenter who was in the very north west
corner of Moore-Cumberland probably had connections to the Carpenters who
were just across the creek/county line in the north east corner of
Montgomery Co., North Carolina. Unfortunately both counties lost most of
their early records.
My branch is Adam Carpenter who left North Carolina c. 1804 for
Edgefield District, South Carolina. Adam's children/sons were John,
William, Isham, and Dennis. William is my ancestor. My paternal
grandmother was a Carpenter from the Trenton area of Edgefield County, Smith
Carolina, whose family moved over to Augusta, Richmond, Georgia, shortly
after the 1900 census. Last summer my Carpenter cousin, Linda Baugh in
California, was supposed to be in the process of getting one of her
Carpenter cousins in Edgefield to do a Y-DNA test. I have not heard from
her of late on her progress in this project. Unfortunately, her main e-mail
address is
att.net. I can't e-mail to
att.net because of blocking issues
with the domain name of my ISP that my ISP has not been able to get fixed
since last summer. I live in a rural area and don't have much choice other
than regular dial up for Internet connections.
Would like to hear from anyone researching the my line of
Carpenters.
