Hello everyone,
This is my first post to the list. I hope one of you may be able to
help me. I'm trying to research my husbands family; I have gotten back
to DANIEL CARPENTER who m. SARA BRANDON/BRADON. Daniel CARPENTER,
b. c1780, probably MD d.October 4, 1852, in Nottingham Twp, Harrison
Co., OH. Daniel married on March 3, 1809, Sara BRANDON/BRADON. Sara
was born c1793, probably in MD; d.after 1860 in Nottingham Twp,
Harrison Co., OH.
...
Carl Camby CARPENTER and Charlotte Lillian HIMELRIGHT are my husbands grandparents.
We can't seem to tie Daniel in with any other CARPENTER family. Has
any one run across this Daniel CARPENTER??? Any additions and or
corrections to the above info. would be greatly appreciated.
No one ever responded to this message on the list, and so I imagine
Cindy is still looking for information and contacts. There is a
positive development that just happened...
I have just found a new test result in the SMGF online database (see
http://www.smgf.org) which appears to be from a son of Carl Camby
Carpenter and Charlotte Lillian Himelright. You may not be familiar
with SMGF, but the important facts are these: they do Y-DNA tests on
volunteers who submit pedigrees, and they post the test results online
along with the pedigrees -- except that they conceal the names and
dates for everyone born after 1905. From this particular pedigree,
therefore, we can tell that the test subject was a grandson of Thomas
Morris Carpenter (grandson of Daniel) via a son who was born after
1905 and who married a Himelright. We can also tell that the DNA
sample was submitted sometime around 1-3 years ago. Given the chart
Cindy posted on this list in 1997, it would seem that the test subject
was either her husband's father or an uncle. We would like to confirm
this if possible, and, in turn, we would like to share with them the
test results. Because of the way Y-DNA is inherited (as a whole
chromosome), the markers tested are passed along from father to son
virtually unchanged down the generations, and so her husband would
have the same results as both his father and any uncle, as well as any
other Carpenter relatives descended in the male line from Daniel or
from Daniel's father, and so on. Unfortunately, we have not yet found
any other Carpenters who match, and the same goes for the many
Zimmermans in our project. Ultimately, we are bound to find a match,
and that may turn out to be the breakthrough needed to trace Daniel
back.
