You might possibly be looking for me ? I am not a "Dr." however.
I worked on marriage & death abstracts from the Huntington, Suffolk County,
newspaper the "Long-Islander." The printed volume published by Heritage
Books [now out of print, but they are sitting on the rights to my data &
will not let me put the info on line] is "Deaths Reported by the 'Long
Islander': 1878-1890."
The on-line version available in the "Long Island Source Records" section of
the great site:
http://longislandgenealogy.com covers "Deaths Reported by
the 'Long Islander': 1891-1900" and "Marriages Reported by the
'Long
Islander': 1878-1900."
The paper was published in Huntington & generally covers the Towns of
Huntington, Smithtown, & Oyster Bay ... with scattered info from North
Hempstead, Jamaica, Hempstead, Brookhaven, Riverhead, Babylon & Islip Towns
+ a good amount on Huntington, Oyster Bay, & Smithtown people who were
married or died in Brooklyn or New York City + scattered info from all
across the country on marriages or deaths of Huntington, Oyster Bay, &
Smithtown people.
You might find info on people from anywhere on Long Island, but west of Glen
Cove the reporting isn't as extensive; ditto for the entire South Shore from
the Rockaways on out; ditto for points east of Port Jefferson ... but if you
are doing the North Shore from Glen Cove to Port Jefferson & south to the
mid-point of the Island, chances are the death or marriage will be reported.
I'll do look ups in my printed book for 1878-1890 BUT REALLY ONLY FOR PEOPLE
WITH DIRECT HUNTINGTON, SMITHTOWN, OR OYSTER BAY TOWN CONNECTIONS ...
otherwise it's really a waste of your time to ask, since the coverage was so
hit & miss outside those 3 Towns. The "South Side Signal" covers the
Babylon
& Islip area much better; ditto on the Jamaica, Flushing, & Hempstead papers
for Queens County info; and ditto for any East End papers for the East End
Towns.
