Hello Carpenter Cousins!
Family Tree DNA has finally released its version of the Y-Haplogroup Tree to the public.
Before now only those who tested at FTDNA could see their portion of it. Please see the
link at:
https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.familytreedna.co...
You can also find the same link at the very bottom of some, but not all, FTDNA web pages
under the Community tag. See:
https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.familytreedna.co...
– scroll to bottom.
This Y-Chromosome Haplogroup Tree uses the SNP (single nucleotide polymorphisms) shorthand
codes. And not the longhand confirmed SNP designations listed by ISOGG which is based on
the 2002 Y-Chromosome Consortium format. ISOGG then lists all the SNPs associated with
that marker from various DNA testing companies. Before 2002 there were about 17 different
Haplogroup formats! See the ISOGG Y-Tree at:
https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__isogg.org_tree_&...
FTDNA has worked with the Geneographic Project to create their Y-Chromosome (Y-Hap) Tree.
They do not use SNP markers found by other DNA testing companies, nor do they use the
longhand designations like ISOGG reports.
The big difference is color coding at FTDNA. They use the SNP short hand code (like
R-M269) and color code it. Green is for confirmed or SNPs that are positive (+) when
tested. Red is for those estimated or NOT SNP tested. Part of the confusion is that they
also use red for SNPs that are tested but are not confirmed (-).
I have slightly modified, a little tongue in cheek, My Real Deep Ancestry.pdf document on
line and placed in bold the SNPs that FTDNA uses. Please be aware that the SNPs cited
will match ALL members of Group 2 & 3 (Descendants of the two William Carpenter
immigrants who settled in Providence, RI and Rehoboth, MA) of the Carpenter Cousins Y-DNA
Project. Yes, I show the longhand designation along with a few associated SNPs. See:

If you wish, you can then use that pdf to navigate both the FTDNA and ISOGG R Trees. See
them at:

I hope you find this interesting.
