Susan,
The book Pike's System of Arithmetick Abridged – likely came from the library of
Daniel Horace Carpenter. It was probably a book his parents once had and was passed down
to their youngest son.
Daniel Carpenter was reportedly a bright young lad and an eager reader. After his death on
28 Dec 1882, his books were likely given away as mementos of his short life. He was born
on 27 Mar 1876 and lived only 6 years, 9 months and 1 day. He lived his entire life in
Chelsea, Orange County, Vermont.
His sister Arminda Irene Carpenter (17 Nov 1873 – 25 Dec 1882) died just three days before
her brother Daniel. She was 9 years, 1 month and 8 days old.
While researchers were unable to determine which disease took these young lives, it was
undoubtedly a sad event.
I will pass this and your message on to the Carpenter Rootsweb.
Thank you.
