Jennifer,
Numbers after the surname reflect ID numbers in the main database.
Background:
Almost all of the Carpenter Loyalists who went to present day New Brunswick
area come from the Providence, Rhode Island line of Carpenters. They are
representative by Group 2 of the Carpenter Cousins Y-DNA Project. they
descend from William Carpenter-662 and Elizabeth Arnold-663 who came from
Wiltshire, England to the Colonies in 1635.
Archealus or Archeleus Carpenter-12564 (1734 NY - d. 1810 Canada) was by
trade a tanner and currier, and he also, by inheritance, had a farm at North
Castle, where he lived up to the time of the Revolutionary War. On account
of his loyalty, he emigrated to Nova Scotia (later New Brunswick) during the
Revolutionary War, where his family has since resided. They left New York
in 1783 on board the ship Cyprus (Not Cyrus), and settled in New Brunswick,
enduring for many years untold hardships in that unsettled country. It is
said of him that he built the first house and shop at "Parrtown." Parrtown
is now St. Johns. He later moved up the Saint John River and settled in
Wickham, Queens County, New Brunswick. He is well cited in the Bureau of
Archives: Claims for losses by British Loyalists After American Revolution:
Page 883 to 994 (various pages), Case number 735.
Note: New Brunswick was split off from Nova Scotia and became a separate
province in 1784.

Your line has a bit of controversy. "Some" claim that Birdsall
Carpenter-24059 and Eleanor Thorne-24078 are the parents of David S.
Carpenter-175260 and your Cole Carpenter (I am assigned 175251 to your Cole
or Coles Carpenter). "They" argue without proof that since the father of
the Birdsall Carpenter was Coles Carpenter-24034 then there should have been
a Coles in that family. The David is even weaker that that. Mostly they
cite One World Tree <SIGH>.
But, per two different books do not have your Cole or that David S. attached
to that Birdsall Carpenter family. See number 558 in the book, Carpenter
Family in America, 1901 by Daniel H. Carpenter. See Family on page 220 &
221. No Cole or David listed listed in that family. MARRIAGE: 3 May 1827
per the above book and 23 April 1827 per the Thorne Genealogy book. No David
or Coles in that book either.
Coles Carpenter-24034 (born 23 May 1761 NY) did have a son named Coles
Carpenter Jr.-24060 born 29 Oct 1807 in NB and he married a Sarah
Sypher-24063 on 25 Sep 1828.
Then we have Coles W. Carpenter-124201 b. abt 1802 Hempstead, Queens, New
Brunswick, Canada - d. abt 1881/1888 in Saint John. He married a Catherine
and at least 4 children of which the only male is listed as Coles H.
Carpenter-175217 (b. 1839 in , Queens, NB d. 8 Jun 1899 in Wickham, Queens,
NB) and he married Adelaide L. Watson-175223 about 1858ish.
Is it possible that one of them is your Coles? Maybe. A Y-DNA test of a
living male Carpenter on your Carpenter line would help. It would need to be
more than 25 markers, and even better at 37 or more markers. See the links
below for more info on the Carpenter Cousins Y-DNA Project.
There are several Cole or Coles Carpenter who never went to Canada that are
born about the right time period but are discarded because I find no
connection with Canada.
As a side note: Nicknames for Archelus and similar spelled versions like
Archilus, Archealus, Archealqus, et cetera include Archie and its variants.
But, Archibald also has Archie for a nickname.
But, I only find one Archelus Carpenter with the specific birth of 9 Sep
1835 in NB and deceased on 11 Feb 1910 in , Carleton, New Brunswick, Canada.
He had at least Frederick A., Alfred Burham, Estella "Blanch" and James
Henry with his wife Martha Maria "Mary" Ebbett.
In the past there has been a few people working on this Canadian Carpenter
line. One of the most helpful were:

Subject: [CARPENTER] Carleton County, New Brunswick
This may have been covered in previous posts but since I am fairly new to
the list I will ask anyway.
I am descended from Archelus Carpenter (1835-1910) who died in Richmond
Corner, Carleton County, NB. He was the son of Coles Carpenter, b. 1804 in
Queens County, NB. Can anyone tell me who the father of this Coles was and
when and where this Coles died? Looking at the First Families info for NB I
am not able to make the connection.
