Hello List,
Recently a member of the list asked about Carpenters of Schoharie County, NY and I sent
him a list of some 40+ names. Unfortunately none of those names seemed to match up.
Below is the family in question and some ancestry information found. It is from a draft
report and should be considered tentative information.
Does anyone have anything to tie these Carpenters to another family? Any help
appreciated.

Subject: Re: [CARPENTER] Schoharie cty NY Carpenters
Seems youve hit the right John. Henry was a business owner in Middleburg. Geo. and David
owned a
lumber mill in Franklinton. David and family moved to Kendallville IN. That is where they
are buried. His
wife was Lucinda Babcock. George is my ggg grandfather and is also buried in the
Middleburgh
cemetery with a military(civil war) tombstone. Geo. commit suicide in April 1894. He was
born 3/22/1829.
My problem has been trying to go back further than John. I have plenty of anecdotal info
claiming we
are Zimmers but no absolute proof. Additionally, my phone is my internet and it would not
allow me to
open your attachment. Gotta wait to get to the library. Plenty of palatine Dutch in the
family and church
affiliation etc.
MORE: ...
John may be John Becker Carpenter and Mary Teter. I'm not positive until I can get to
see the actual
record.

David and family moved to Kendallville, Indiana and they are buried there.
Henry is buried in Middleburgh cemetery with his wife as is George who was issued a
military
tombstone. He was poor due to selling everything to support his family while he served
time for a
murder conviction that was determined to be self defense. Not quite the picture we were
led to believe.
I have a plethora of info on the family which makes for interesting reading but little on
John. I was told
that the Zimmers of Berne claimed they were relatives of the Carpenters of Clarksville.
