John, I'm sorry that you see my posts from last week as "beefs". I was
actually hoping that my comments might help to make the group a wee bit more inclusive, on
behalf of all of us Carpenter descendants living beyond the U.S.A. I thought John R's
response to me was very thoughtful and generous, and have no intention of continuing an
"argument".
In fact, I have very much enjoyed reading the stories about the "Carpenter
diaspora" posted since my first comments, and thank all those who have shared their
Carpenter family journeys! My comments were motivated only by my desire to see this
wonderful group simply acknowledge that it exists far beyond the borders of the U.S.
Perhaps I should have chosen my words more carefully. I'd love to hear more about
your revolutionary/loyalist Carpenter brothers!
I would actually be very interested in reading the roots list policy, as I certainly did
not intend to violate it. I did attempt to find it online, but with no success.
Regards,
Gai McArthur

P.S. I've been wondering if there are any stories of Carpenter families split apart by
the Civil War, as well as stories of Carpenters who were involved in the Underground
Railroad, as were the Michigan family of my gg grandmother, Abigail Carpenter Dean.
I'd also love to hear about the experiences of other Carpenters who belonged to the
Society of Friends....
