Mary or Polly Carpenter-22836 is the daughter of Rev. Gilbert
Carpenter-13165 and Sarah Scovele-20263.
Gilbert C-13165 notes include:
Number 355 in the Carpenter Memorial. Page 90
Family on page 787 (# 1683). The Carpenter Memorial indicates that the
first five children were baptized in 1782.
Rev. Gilbert Carpenter was a prisoner on the ship "Jersey" in New York
Harbor, but escaped to the mainland.
Abraham parents have not been confirmed, but NY VR has Abraham, s. Abraham &
Eliz(abeth), b. July 11, 1768; 1; 288 Orange county, NY.
I find nothing for a birth abt 8 Feb 1770, so I believe the age in years and
months (56 & 10) given on the headstone is in error.
Based on the death date 8 Dec 1826 minus 11 July 1768 equals 58 years, 4
months and 27 days. A big difference of the 56 years and 10 months given.
Are headstone year, month, day usually wrong? Mostly, but usually not that
different.
Abraham Carpenter-5052 and Elizabeth _____-63603 are listed as the parents
with the caveat of unproven. My notes for the father Abraham are:
Number 346 in the Carpenter Memorial. Page 88
No family listed.
The Carpenter and Related Family Historical Journal (1995) Vol. 5, No. 9, p.
552 - indicates two possible children (NOT PROVEN) as children; Abraham and
Daniel J. Carpenter.
Abraham Carpenter enlisted in the Orange County Militia 27
Mar 1760, age 17, born Goshen, a taylor, stature 5' 5-3/4", fair hair,
well sett, Capt. Wisener's Co. - ibid p. 330-331.
The father of Abraham C-5052 is Samuel Carpenter-4963 (1695 Jamaica, Queens,
New York City, Long Island, New York, USA who died after (will date) 21 Jun
1752 and before (will proven) 1 Nov 1752 Goshen, Orange, New York, USA). His
notes include:
Number 92 in the Carpenter Memorial. Page 63.
Family on page 88 (#52).
WILL: Will proven 1 Nov 1752. "Samuel Carpenter of Goshen, wife Patience,
sons Samuel, William, Abraham, John, Joshua and Richard. Daughters Abigail
and Martha. Children not of age. Wait Smith, Jr. & Benjamin Carpenter
executors, (will dated) June 21, 1752."

I've been working from the top down and I know that Rehoboth Carpenters were
in Jamaica during that time. However, you are not in my line of ancestors
until maybe Benjamin. Thanks for replying. Carl Carpenter
